MAC Cosmetics Painterly Collection “Paint Pots”

I am most excited about MAC’s new Painterly collection. There are 12 gorgeously colored “paint pots” in this collection, and there is not one color that I did not love (even the blue!)
This is the 3rd collection by MAC that I have been able to review and by far my favorite. The formula for the paint pots is incredible. They are creamy to apply and blend easily (I didn’t use a brush, only my finger) and they dry looking like a highly intense pigmented powder. What I loved is that my color looked as great at the end of the day as it did when I first applied it. Also? They didn’t crease (and it was 90 degrees out!)
Due to their high pigment quality, you only need small dabs of color to spread them out. The jar is generous in the amount of paint, making for a very long life span.
The paint pots look shimmery in their jars, yet when they dry, they are very matte. So the colors are wearable no matter where you are going (vs. Rush Metal pigments may not be appropriate for the office).
No doubt this collection is an absolute must-have! What’s best is that this collection is going to remain a permanent part of MAC’s line of products. Fabulous!

Those sound lovely. Thank goodness they’re staying for a while — maybe one day I’ll have enough saved up for the collection! LOL. Damn prices…
(in reply to Britt’s comment)The prices aren’t bad at all for the quality you get from MAC products. $16.50 for a product that gives you 8-hour wear and is crease+water resistant is worth its value. A $5 eyeshadow isn’t worth half it’s value when the color doesn’t even show up on your skin. You should go to a counter and ask for a sample sometime, I promise you’ll love paint pots and it will be worth the money! :]
Wonderfully written, Shannon. Do you work at MAC? If not, I’m real impressed by your product knowledge. Keep up the good work!
Whitney–nope I don’t work for MAC, just in love with this collection.
Thank you for the compliment. :)
I am a major fan of the paint pots!
I just wish they would make even more bright colors like in the McQueen collection and make them perm. I’d love a yellow or pink one xD.
I bought the Bare Study paint pot back when these first came out (a good six months ago, at least) and have used it daily. I absolutely love this product, it’s replaced my UDPP as my eye primer and it really helps my eyeshadows stay in place and not crease. It’s such an awesome product!
i love using the paint pot in rubenesque as my base color. it looks really natural alone. With other colors, the rubenesque seems to hold on and give better pay off to those shadows.
this stuff really does not crease!
ding ding ding!! winnerr
paint pots are awesome i cant wait to see more colors come out like some seriously vibrant shades.
I love Mac paint pots! I find that spending 16.50 on one that lasts me like 9 months is much better than cheap stuff that lasts 2 you definatly get what pay for. same with the gel eyeliners too. last me when wearing everyday the black, almost 11 months and as long as make sure put the covers on tight they dont dry out like alot of liquids
I need help! I just bought mac paint pot in place of the urban decay prime, and when i apply it around my eyes to help with the dark circles, it makes the circles darker. I’ve tried the maybelline concealer, and it does the same thing. Is this suppose to happen???
Hi Rey,
What color are you using? You definitely want a color that is lighter than the circles themselves, but blends with the rest of your skintone.
for the mac i am using soft ochre (kind of yellowish). for the concealer i am using cream Light 4-5. My skin is not too dark and not too light. I am asian, the color are just a bit lighter than my skintone. Am I suppose to apply foundation or anything else before applying either one on?
Hi Rey,
I sent an email over to my contact at MAC for some insight from their makeup team. Hold tight, it might take a day or two for a response.
ok thanks so much!
Okay, I’m going to agree that the paint pot was wonderful, AT FIRST! Now it is so dry that I have to scrap off a little bit with a fingernail and rub and rub and rub until there aren’t little flakes, because once those hit your skin you can’t spread them out and you look ridiculous. It’s terribly annoying. Anybody have suggestions or encountered the same thing?
KG, make sure that you put the top back on tightandnot crooked. I know I did that once and after not using that particular color for a few weeks, when went to it had dried up. I did try putting a little bit of water on my brush first then into the pot coor which worked for me. A friend of mine that had left hers on her counter open before leaving for 3 days came back and found hers dried up. She took a few drops of water and then used the end of her brush to kind of mix it. she said that worked to re moisten it and was fine after that. Hope this helps.
