Make Up For Ever Lip Seal

make up for ever lip sealWhen I was in New York , I stopped into Sephora in Times Square–a fabulous experience (but what a mad house!) I had heard a lot about Make Up For Ever and had long been wanting to try their Lip Seal, which touts that this coating on your lips will lock in your lipstick color all day long and won’t alter the color.

The first time I tried the Lip Seal, I only put on a thin layer over my lipstick. It wasn’t sticky and appeared to dry immediately. It did seem to take the shine away from my frosted lipstick making it appear more matte. Sadly, when I put my coffee cup to my mouth (about 15 minutes later), my lipstick came right off.

I decided that I either didn’t apply enough product or didn’t wait long enough for it to completely dry–so I tried again a few more times on different days. I applied a thicker layer and waited a longer amount of time before drinking/eating. With the thicker layer, the lipstick still came off, but not as much as before and left some still on my lips. When I went to apply more lipstick, the Lip Seal bunched up making it look like I had film on my lips.

So I used makeup remover to take it off and tried again. This time I did not put anything to my lips for hours and noticed that my lipstick began to feather.

I wanted so much for this product to work, as I have heard good things about this brand. Although, it wasn’t at all worth the $20 price tag, I’ll still give other Make Up For Ever products a shot.

Have you tried Lip Seal? What did you think?

I have yet to find a Lip Seal that works, I have tried everything from L’Oreal’s to MAC’s to CG’s they just dont work!! *sigh* I totally feel for you, though I ahvent tried MUFE’s version

I’ve tried Benefit’s She-Laq for my eye makeup and it works. My favorite use for it is on my Mascara if I’m using one that I know might flake or it might be a “waterproof” day. I have not tried to use it on my lips, perhaps I’ll give that a shot when I get ready today.

I don’t believe in such things may be except for waterproof mascara..

One of the best tricks for maintaining lip color is to fill in the lips with lip pencil, then apply lipstick. The pencil remains when the lipstick comes off so that your color is still present. You can reapply lipstick when you are ready.

I definitely agree that these products aren’t really necessary. I’ve never used any kind of lip sealant and actually prefer to reapply lip color when I need it. That way, it looks fresh all the time, when you want it and never looks flaky, dull or too heavy.

Thanks Makeup Minute for your very honest review on this product! I’ll definitely re-visit your site for more beauty tips and reviews! :)

aw bummer! now that i’m getting into lipsticks, i know how much maintence it takes to keep it from getting off your lips and onto something else. I heard that Urban Decay has a whole line of products that are dedicated to sealing all types of makeup?

The packaging is like a glass blue with a fortune teller looming over a crystal ball. Something called Laq? I heard that stuff really seals everryythingg in.

I found the Lip seal to work perfectly – on itself. Some product got between the cap and the bottle (well, naturally) and it is now physically impossible to open the thing. No matter really, as the inside of the bottle isn’t even worth trying, after the ONE time i got to use it before it got stuck, I was not impressed.

…I dunno if I’d trust this. I bet it’s hard to scrub off! I think I’ll just stick with lip primers.

  11. Kristen says:

I did the same thing…tried in the store to no avail! Alas, some things are just too good to be true!

  12. Trisha says:

it sounds like you could have lost a layer of lip just applying, removing & trying it again. harsh stuff, especially if it doesnt work!

  13. Jamie says:

The Lip Seal may not work, but TRY the Eye Seal! It is truely amazing. I have oily eyes PLUS I am a dog groomer (I’m wet and sweaty at work) and this stuff sets my eyeshadow for 10+ hours. I had tried hundreds of dollars of primers, liners, powders, and other things before finding it. It’s amazing.

Lip Last by English Ideas. thin layer brushed over just once. stings alittle at first and a little drying but works good.
