Makeup Monday: Your Makeup Questions Answered

racoon-eyes“Whenever I rim my top inner eye (using a black pencil), I end up with a thick black line under my eyes by the end of the night. Sometimes I can pass it off as smokey, other times, it just looks like I put my makeup up with the lights out. Any tips on how to prevent this from happening?” Min, Virginia

I used to have this problem all the time. I talked to one of the employees at Sephora, and they recommended that I try an an eyeshadow primer (like Urban Decay’s Primer Potion). It’s done exactly the trick for me. It seems to waterproof whatever you put on your eyelid, so you don’t get the scary raccoon eyes unless you’re doing some serious exercising or sleep with your makeup on. I don’t know if it will work for a pencil eyeliner, thought. I don’t use a pencil anymore; I’ve switched to wetting an eyeliner brush in water and using any eyeshadow for eyeliner.

    Hope that helps!

This is what works for me. After you put on your foundation and powder, take an eyeshadow brush and put some of your powder on your eyelid and under your eye (right where you are going to put your eyeliner) You don’t won’t a lot of powder under the eye because it will cake, you may want to experiment with this a bit but it has really been working for me. No smudges whatsoever since I’ve been doing this. One more thing, after you put on your eyeliner, take some powder eyeshadow and go over the eyeliner lightly. This helps keep the eyeliner from moving. I hope this helps you!

i do a little bit of a combination of what traci & cynthia do. i use the urban decay primer potion but not only on my lid, i swipe a small amount along my bottom lashline & blend. so what ever i use as liner sticks like glue! (in a good way ;-) )

The SAME thing used to happen to me, girl!

I use UDPP or MAC’s paint pot along the entire lid of my eye, and then am just always sure to brush a little bit along my bottom lash line. It works every time, and I don’t have to worry about my racoon eyes.

  5. Ashley Samantha says:

Try something smudge proof, or you could sweep over it with a black eyeshadow that is the same color. Good luck!

  6. Kristen says:

Eye shadow primer and a little bit of powder below the lower lash line always works for me.

the first step is using good products that are known for its staying power. and using the urban decay primer potion (cult favorite) before everything. after you’ve done that, use mac fluid line (or revlon colorstay) that shoulddd do the trick!
