Ok readers, today is the first question in what I hope will be a weekly Monday series on Makeup Minute. If you have a makeup question you would like answered by your fellow Makeup Minute readers, please submit it to Shannon (at) b5media (dot) com
“My question is about makeup for women over 50. There is a large group of us out there & there is not much about the color you should wear when you are older. I do the natural look, as I always have. BUT can we wear metallic (gold & silver)? How about the luminating color to highlighting that we are hearing about everywhere? We want to stay up to date like everyone else….but not look like a clown!”–Jackie W.

Paula Begoun says you should only wear matte, but I have applied metallics and shine products to women of all ages and have them look beautiful and not at all clown-like.
For highlighters/luminous products, go with something that has more of a pink or peach tone than silver or gold. Small amounts on places like cheek and brow bones can work. A liquid can give more even of a look and not settle into fine lines as much.
As for true metallics, a metallic lip gloss can look great for evening, or even a bit of silver or gold shadow on the lid paired with matte shadow along the lash line or typical matte eye liner. The goal is to use in moderation, more as an accent. If your lips are metallic, keep your eyes matte or if you have metallic eyes, keep lips glossy or more of a creamy look. Balance will keep it current, attractive and not at all clown-like :-)
metallics are a great idea. I like the natural look for more mature women…but most importantly: moisturize!
I’m only 21, but I think ladies of all ages should wear whatever they wish! There is a way to get away with metallics, try toning them down with powder or mixing w/ the different types of eyeshadows. If you know what you’re doing, and carry yourself with grace and confidence you’ll always look amazing.
there are no true “rules” that should be taken too seriously, think of them as guides only. anyone at any age can wear what they like, its all about wearing it the right way, minimal & not overrdone
i look like a panda with black eyes thats after using eye makeup pads to remove mascara it can lok like that for days can you help
