If you’re anything like me (a makeup tutorial addict, that is), you’ll be pleased to hear that tarte  has launched an official YouTube channel!

tarte-youtube-channelHere, you’ll find makeup artists and members of the tarte executive team giving 101 tutorials on some of the brand’s best-selling products (cheek stains, for one), as well as new releases.

In addition,  they’ll also be sharing trend, celebrity and seasonal makeup tips & looks from guest celebrity makeup artists and tarte’s Creator & CEO Maureen Kelly.

I’m curious! Do you subscribe to any makeup channels on YouTube? Are they from a brand or a blogger or other makeup fans? Tell me in the comments!

Fall 2009 Preview: Bobbi Brown

June 26, 2009 by Dina Fierro

“Nude makeup never goes out of style- it’s polished, sophisticated and always looks modern,” says Bobbi Brown. No surprise there, right? Bobbi is known for her amazingly natural-looking makeup collections (well, except the Brights Palette, perhaps!) and Fall 2009 continues that trend with the Nudes Collection.

bobbi-brown-fall-nudesIncluded in the collection is the Nude Eye Palette ($60), which features eye shadow duos in a sophisticated and universally flattering selection of shades and textures. Also new for Fall is a new Shimmer Brick shade - the Nude Shimmer Brick ($40). Featuring five pure pearl pigments in pink, gold, bronze, beige, and caramel, the shades are designed to be blended together to give all skin tones a soft nude, lit from within glow.

Rounding out the Nudes Collection is the Caviar Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($21) a rich, deep brown eye liner and four new shades of Bobbi’s popular Creamy Lip Color ($22).

The collection will be available at department stores and  www.bobbibrown.com in July 2009.

What do you think of the Nude Collection? Does this jive with your planned fall look?

Steamy Summer Beauty: Too Faced

Bronzer addicts (you know who you are!), you’ll want to get your glow ON this summer with Too Faced’s latest palette, The Bronzed and the Beautiful ($35).

too-faced-the-bronzed-and-the-beautiful

This clever kit contains three of Too Faced’s most popular bronzers, including  Snow Bunny, a skin perfecting winter bronzer Sun Bunny, a cult favorite medium bronze and Pink Leopard, which creates an illuminating tropical tan.

It also comes with a sweet little Kabuki brush for the perfect application. And here’s a little Makeup Minute tip from me - for the most natural looking bronzer, focus your application on the spots where the sun naturally hits your face: the bridge of your nose, chin, cheekbones and the hairline.

If you shop now (today through Sunday, the 28th) at www.toofaced.com, you can even enjoy 20% off any order by using code “SIZZLE” - that brings the price of this palette down to just $28!

Happy Shopping!

Handy! Prescriptives Groom Stick for Brows

June 24, 2009 by Dina Fierro

I’m in the process of packing for my big move on July 1. After living in the same apartment for over 7 years (an eternity for a renter in NYC), I’ve accumulated what can only be called QUITE a makeup stash. So, in the effort to lighten my load, I’ve been sorting through my beauty goodies gradually - donating products to charity (battered women’s shelters love getting unused products), gifting them to friends and of course, tossing the stuff that just won’t work.  Along the way, I’ve discovered some long lost gems.  Among them? Prescriptives Groom Stick for Brows ($18.50).

prescriptives-groom-stick-for-browsThis handy, dandy SUPERSLIM pencil is a dual ended threat, housing a spoolie brush to keep brows tidy (I like to coat it with a teeny tiny bit of Aquaphor for some gloss and hold) and a non-smudgy, easy-gliding brow pencil on the other side.

The best way to use the brow pencil is to use short, feathery strokes on any area of your brows that might need a little filling it.  The Groom Stick delivers a nice, natural looking finish as long as you can find a match in the four colors available. It’s also waterproof and virtually sweat proof (important as July approaches!)

To shop Prescriptives, visit www.prescriptives.com.

Fall ‘09 Sneak Preview: Lancôme

This morning in Paris, the Lancôme makeup team unveiled their Fall 2009 color collection, dubbed Declaring Indigo. Created by artistic director for makeup Aaron De Mey, this collection celebrates Paris in all its vibrancy. Aaron chose shades that represent the glamour, the energy and the passion of Paris: indigo blue, bright red and luxurious gold. Sounds gorgeous, doesn’t it? So classic!

The Power of a Red Lip

June 22, 2009 by Dina Fierro

It’s no secret that makeup is a major confidence builder, in and of itself.  But as I get a bit older, I find that my tastes are changing…I’m putting aside the sweet pink glosses and the colorful eyeshadows for a bit of experimentation with a more classic, pin-up style.  Recently, I’ve given a nude lip and a smokey eye a go. But a bold red lip remained out of reach - it was a little’ too TOO’, as I like to say.

red_lipstick But tonight, I attended a top secret video shoot at Dex New York, where I found the red lippie that just may have been made for me. Dubbed Carroll Street Ruby ($22), this rich, blue-toned hue made me feel like a new woman - (a flirtatious, ballsy woman) and I’m not exaggerating. The formula also lasted forever (in fact, it still looks flawless hours later) and didn’t transfer a trace of color to my champagne glass.

Lesson learned - don’t be afraid to take risks with makeup - it’s remarkably liberating. After all, if you don’t love it, it can be removed in an instant. No harm, no foul!

Luxe Must:StrangeBeautiful Library of Color

June 21, 2009 by Dina Fierro

If you appreciate the beauty of art and design, you’ll appreciate my latest nail discovery, StrangeBeautiful.  This luxe lacquer is sold exclusively in sets of eight - a Library of Color - and packaged in an engraved handcrafted Lucite box.

strange-beautiful

Jane Schub, the creator and designer of StrangeBeautiful, is a Rhode Island School of Design graduate who derives inspiration from some unusual places - including the Ettore Sottsass Red Valentine typewriter and Josef Albers Color Theory (a far cry from runway inspiration, right?)

Her color choices are bold and unusual - among my favorites are a rich rust creme and an intense olive green. Lacquers are Big 3 free (meaning they contain no formaldehyde, toluene or dibutyl phthalate) and eschew the cheeky names that are so common in other lines.

To learn more, visit www.strangebeautiful.biz or to shop the collection (it’s $79 per Library and they are only sold in sets) at Bergdorf Goodman, 754 Fifth Avenue.

Genius! Sephora Boxed Sets

June 20, 2009 by Dina Fierro

Since I have a short attention span, there are very few things that I love more than set of miniature beauty products. Sets give me a a chance to try out several different products without committing to a full size of something that may or may not work for me.  If you have a similar weakness, check out Sephora’s new Boxed Sets.

Available in several different combinations, each set is packed to the brim with deluxe trial sizes of some of the most popular products available at Sephora.  For example, if you need a new mascara but aren’t sure what to try, check out the Lash Stash Deluxe Sampler:sephora-lash-stash

It includes 11 mini mascaras, including Tarte Lights Camera Lashes, Sephora Atomic Volume Mascara and Stila Multi Effect Mascara.

There are also kits that include best-selling moisturizers, natural products and skincare saviors, among others.  All retail for between $24-40 - to shop, click here!

The Power of Two: Neutrogena

Two is better than one, yes?  Neutrogena certainly thinks so. Their new Nourishing Eye Duos  include two beautiful coordinated colors, each with very special ingredients!

The base color of the Duo (that’s the larger circle!) boasts natural soy, silk powder and Vitamins A, C, & E to condition lids while the accent color includes luminizing pearls to add a bit of glowiness.

Neutrogena nourish eye duo_grp1Available in eight coordinated color combinations, each Duo includes easy to follow application tips from Neutrogena’s celebrity artist Matin to help you easily create a subtle day or dramatic night look.

My fave is Sugarplum, the lovely pink and purple pair pictured left - it works nicely with my green/blue eyes.

Shop the collection in drugstores nationwide or over at Drugstore.com.
