Halloween Made Easy: The Women of Mad Men

Halloween is tomorrow and no matter what’s on your agenda – party or parade – the killer style and flawless faces seen on AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ would be the perfect costume (simple, feminine and beautiful!)

To get the look, try snagging a vintage dress from your closet or the closet of your mom or grandmother. Accessorize it conservatively with classic pearls, diamond studs, matching mid-height heels and a chic clutch.
For the makeup, start with a powder foundation (I like the one from Michael Marcus Cosmetics ($40) as it creates a close – to – flawless complexion.)
Next, apply a thin line of …read more

Giveaway: Walmart Gets Pretty!

Truth be told, since I live in NYC, Walmart is a positively exotic shopping experience to me.  I’ve only been a handful of times in the past few years but whenever I’m in the vicinity of a store, I feel compelled to shop.

I have no excuse for not shopping Walmart anymore though – the site just launched Health & Beauty products online for home delivery. That means that thousands of  items from your favorite mass brands like Neutrogena, L’Oreal, Pantene and Gillette can now be shipped directly to home. Convenient, right? No running out of razors or sunscreen!

College Students Save at Ulta!

Though I like to complain about how old I am, few things would actually make me want to turn back the clock and be a college student again. But one of those few things is definitely the great discounts that students enjoy.
In fact, the folks at beauty retailer Ulta just got in touch to share the news that they’ve been offering exclusive monthly discounts on the hottest beauty trends to students everywhere who show their student ID.

As 2009 comes to a close, so will the “College Day” program, but before it does, Ulta still has two more “College Day” offers to …read more

All Lacquered Up Asks:What’s On MY Nails?

As longtime readers of Makeup Minute already know, nail polish is a real passion of mine. As such, I spend all too much time checking out the swatches and reading up on the latest collections over at All Lacquered Up, THE definitive guide to nail polish online.

ALU blogger Michelle Mismas, who’s collaborated with Barielle and Rescue Beauty Lounge (and been quoted all over the place as a nail expert) was nice enough to ask ME a few questions this week.
Check out my “What’s on your nails?” interview at All Lacquered Up!

Look for Less: Victoria’s Secret

Guerlain’s gorgeous Meteorites Powders have long taunted me from the shelves at Sephora. But $53 is a steep price to pay for a complexion enhancer in this economy.
Thankfully, Victoria’s Secret has created a budget-conscious dupe with the new Heidi Klum Luminous Face Powder Gems. Inspired by Heidi’s life-changing trip to the spiritual city of Varanasi, India, the packaging is beyond lovely and what’s inside is pretty fab too.
These multi-colored spheres deliver a really natural looking radiant all-over glow or a nice pop of cheek color depending on how you apply.
I like to swirl a blush brush in a circular …read more

Look Pretty, Feel Pretty: Lipstick Queen

Did you know that for the first time, women own half the businesses in the U.S. and are set to equal men on the nation’s payroll? That’s pretty fab news, isn’t it, ladies?
To celebrate, beauty entrepreneur Poppy King has partnered with Count Me In For Women’s Economic Independence to launch a sheer fire engine red lip gloss – aptly dubbed Fired Up Power Gloss – to help fuel the fires of women who are creating new jobs and leading the nation out of recession.

100 % of the profits from the sale of Fired Up will go to Count Me In, …read more

Halloween Made Easy: Twiggy

One week to go! Yes, I’m still thinking Halloween here at Makeup Minute and celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman had another simple but ultra glam idea that was worth sharing.
For a mod ’60’s Twiggy look, focus on getting the perfect pop art eyes. You’ll need two sets of false eyelashes – one very full, dark pair for the top and a second sparser, spikier pair for the bottom (Brett recommends Andrea Perma-Lash).
Sculpt lid out from the tear duct to outer corner with matte gray shadow – be very exaggerated and rounded and arc it like a rainbow. Then, take a …read more

Halloween Made Easy: Marilyn Monroe

Halloween is almost here and yet again, I’m left undecided on what to be.  Luckily, celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman (he’s also the founder of Vanitymark Cosmetics) has come to the rescue with some fab makeup tips to create the classic bombshell look, a la Marilyn Monroe. Follow the step by step below and you’ll be well on your way to creating a simple and classically gorgeous look this Halloween!

Start with a foundation that’s a shade lighter than you usually use (Brett digs Revlon’s Custom Creations foundation – I love that he doesn’t hesitate to recommend products from all different …read more

Bourjois Celebrates Paris!

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I’m in Paris and loving it. There’s something that’s just so magical about the city, it’s inexplicable. So, I was thrilled to see that French makeup line Bourjois is celebrating its home country this season with a collection of Paris-inspired eye shadows.
Each of the limited edition shadows commemorates an iconic Paris landmark as seen through the eyes of illustrator Nathalie Rêve. Below, the Place Vendome adorns a beautiful purple shadow called Violet Absolu.
There are four shadows in all available, including a classic smoky Noir Precioux and the neutral Beige Rose; if you’re a Francophile, …read more
