Spring Makeup Trends 2009: Bobbi Brown at Brian Reyes

Brian Reyes Spring '09 Face Chart

Bobbi Brown’s looks on the runway this fashion week seem to follow a similar pattern–a soft smoky eye in Spring-like colors. The only difference among them has really been the skin. She has sometimes opted for dewy or glowing and in the Brian Reyes runway show, she chose matte (my favorite).

I am completely loving the lip colors she has chosen at all of her shows. The best part is that the colors are wearable for me, which means I have some shopping to do!

Bobbi’s inspiration for this Spring 2009 makeup look:

“Brian Reyes’ Spring 2009 collection was inspired by the Ethiopian desert, so I created a complementary makeup look with matte textures and neutral, earthy tones. To give the skin an even, matte look I used concealer and stick foundation. On the eyes I played with texture, layering powder and cream shadows. To give the lips a nude, flat look I applied only foundation. A strong, rich brow – filled in with matte powder eye shadow and tousled with brow gel – completed the look.”

What have you thought about Bobbi Brown’s looks for Spring?

If this is what spring looks like, I will keep my purse strings tied as I already have tons of nude colors. Foundation on lips make me look like a corpse. I will stick to cream gloss, thanks.

What is cement color? A light grey? Been there done that.

I just checked my bb living palette 2007 version. Cement was already in it. Now they are recycling for 2009?

    Ferarri,

For the most part, the colors for spring and fall will always remain the same–spring will always be light colors, nudes or pastels and fall will always be darker, richer colors. So its no surprise to see makeup brands recycle their colors, especially if it was a big hit the first time around.

Thanks, before I got the makeup fever, never bothered to follow the trends. Thanks to your site, now I can wear the latest colors.

Oooh makeup fever! That is something that is incurable you know. Once it hit me, I never looked back. lol.

Thanks for reading my blog, I have another one also about skin care, bath & body, etc. called A Girl’s Gotta Spa.

I have a question regarding bright colors. Are they in or out for 2009? I have lots of browns, greys, whites, mauve, orange, blues but no lime green or canary yellows. I saw the bobbi brights and like it. Then I saw a Manly 80 color square palette and love it though I worry about unknown brands and if I will ever use more than 10 of the colors! Since I got the makeup fever, I have indulged in the following:-
Estee Lauder 2007 Blockbuster (that’s when I started)
Elizabeth Arden 2008 stacked colors box (lots of dark smokey colors)
Christian Dior Travel Studio – has a collection of 8 colors
Estee Lauder Evening Bag collection-has 2 palettes of 6 warm and 6 cool pure colors minature touch up set.

So, I am desperately in need of good help. Should I buy a bright color set? Are they out of fashion already?

Hope you can help me and guide me to purchasing good stuff. Thanks a lot.

I have been checking out the latest collections. U are absolutely right! I am pulling out my estee lauder pure color eyeshadows and will have a ball. The colors are light-just like those in spring. When do we use Bright colors? I am curious.
