Halloween Made Easy: The Women of Mad Men

Halloween is tomorrow and no matter what’s on your agenda – party or parade – the killer style and flawless faces seen on AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ would be the perfect costume (simple, feminine and beautiful!)

To get the look, try snagging a vintage dress from your closet or the closet of your mom or grandmother. Accessorize it conservatively with classic pearls, diamond studs, matching mid-height heels and a chic clutch.
For the makeup, start with a powder foundation (I like the one from Michael Marcus Cosmetics ($40) as it creates a close – to – flawless complexion.)
Next, apply a thin line of …read more

Cheap Thrill:Maybelline SuperStay Concealer

While I’ve encountered many great concealers over the years (Cle de Peau, Bobbi Brown and Max Factor, among them), I’m ALWAYS interested in testing the newest in the hopes it might be my ‘holy grail’.
My latest try is Maybelline’s new SuperStay Concealer and I’m impressed!
This long-wearing, yet lightweight, formula stays flawless (no creases in the undereye area) and doesn’t budge for hours. (Maybelline claims 24 hours, but I always make it a point to remove my makeup before bed, so I can’t weigh in on that!)
There’s quite a bit of coverage as well and the wand applicator makes application a …read more

Beauty Tips from Designer Rachel Roy

Designer Rachel Roy is as well known for her flawless appearance as she is her great style and design sense, so when she offered up some beauty tips, I knew Makeup Minute readers would want the scoop!
Check out Rachel’s tidbits below and if you have any questions or comments, please share!

Rachel says:

I feel a great mascara can open the eye and instantly make you look as though you’ve have a good night’s sleep, even when that is not the case.  I use 2-3 coats of Lancome Fatale on the top, bottom, and also on the back of the top lashes.

Fall 2009: tarte Dark Circle Defense

As the proud ownner of hereditary dark circles (thanks, mom! thanks, dad!), the perfect concealer is my version of the holy grail.  Now, don’t get me wrong…there are several  that do a great job (Bobbi Brown and Cle de Peau come to mind, among others) but I can never stop that nagging voice in the back of mind that says, “Surely, you can do better.”  It turns out that the voice was right…I’m now loving tarte’s new Dark Circle Defense.
This intense coverage concealer has a drier formula, which leads to really amazing staying power. Simply dab a bit onto the stiff …read more

Fall 2009: Bobbi Brown Forest Shimmer Ink

Bobbi Brown’s new Ivy League Collection for Fall 2009 includes a fresh, new spin on fall’s strong eye: Forest Shimmer Ink Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner.
If you’ve never tested Bobbi’s gel liners, you’re in for a treat. If you use the right brush (I dig MAC’s 210), they’re super simple to apply and leave the perfect swipe of long lasting color.
The Forest hue in particular is stunning, in my opinion –  it’s a deep green and golden pearl that really makes hazel and brown eyes pop!
You can pair this with one of the two new pearlized eye shadows for fall –  Autumn …read more

Fall 2009 Preview: Bobbi Brown

“Nude makeup never goes out of style- it’s polished, sophisticated and always looks modern,” says Bobbi Brown. No surprise there, right? Bobbi is known for her amazingly natural-looking makeup collections (well, except the Brights Palette, perhaps!) and Fall 2009 continues that trend with the Nudes Collection.
Included in the collection is the Nude Eye Palette ($60), which features eye shadow duos in a sophisticated and universally flattering selection of shades and textures. Also new for Fall is a new Shimmer Brick shade – the Nude Shimmer Brick ($40). Featuring five pure pearl pigments in pink, gold, bronze, beige, and caramel, the shades are …read more

Steamy Summer Beauty: Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown’s newest gloss formula, the Sheer Color Lip Gloss ($20) is the perfect new lippie for Summer.  Available in four bright, poppy colors including my personal favorite, Popsicle (a sheer raspberry pink that gives the perfect-just-ate-a-popsicle wash of color), Marina Pink, Cabana Coral and Sailor.
The formula is smooth and relatively thick, though not a bit sticky.  Pair the gloss with Bobbi’s new Sheer Color Cheek Tint ($22, available in six shades) to get the full Nautical Collection look.
These babies are a limited edition so, pucker up soon!

New: Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Mascara

Long lasting lash length and definition are the promises delivered upon by Bobbi Brown’s new Perfectly Defined Mascara ($24).

This flexible formula uses a unique multi-comb brush with long bristles to separate and lift lashes while shorter bristles maximize the volume of each individual lash. The finish is flexible, glossy and waterproof. In fact, my only criticism of this mascara is that it was quite hard to remove – eye makeup removers and cleansers just don’t do it.  You need to use a cotton ball or washcloth soaked in very warm water to remove the fibers.
If you’re looking for a mascara that stays put  …read more
