One week to go! Yes, I’m still thinking Halloween here at Makeup Minute and celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman had another simple but ultra glam idea that was worth sharing.

For a mod ’60’s Twiggy look, focus on getting the perfect pop art eyes. You’ll need two sets of false eyelashes – one very full, dark pair for the top and a second sparser, spikier pair for the bottom (Brett recommends Andrea Perma-Lash).

Sculpt lid out from the tear duct to outer corner with matte gray shadow – be very exaggerated and rounded and arc it like a rainbow. Then, take a near-white silver shimmer eye shadow and apply boldly to lid and brow bone.

Use a black liquid liner on top and bottom, extending on the outer corners horizontally (toward the mid ear, not the temple). Apply false lashes to top and bottom lash lines. Steer clear of blush and go for a very pale, fleshy lipstick or gloss.

To finish your Twiggy costume, pair this look with a short cropped coif, a mini printed shift dress and white boots that were made for walkin’!

Halloween is almost here and yet again, I’m left undecided on what to be. Luckily, celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman (he’s also the founder of Vanitymark Cosmetics) has come to the rescue with some fab makeup tips to create the classic bombshell look, a la Marilyn Monroe. Follow the step by step below and you’ll be well on your way to creating a simple and classically gorgeous look this Halloween!

Start with a foundation that’s a shade lighter than you usually use (Brett digs Revlon’s Custom Creations foundation – I love that he doesn’t hesitate to recommend products from all different lines and at all different price points…) This sets the stage for the crisp, retro look.

Shade the crease of your eye with a soft beige-y taupe shadow. With a sponge-tipped applicator, apply a matte, bone colored shadow (or pale face powder) all over lids and add a silvery shimmer along the brow bone to highlight. The black liquid liner is very important. Run from tear duct to outer corner very close to the lash line. Extend liner up and out. Corner false lashes finish this alluring eye look.

Fill out lips with a true blue-red lip liner and fill in with a deep red lipstick. Use very minimal blush in a soft pink. Ice the cake with Marilyn’s iconic mole aka your black liquid liner!

Pair with a white halter dress…don’t forget the windy subway grate!

Stay tuned for more great Halloween makeup ideas this week – and if you have any special how-to requests, leave a comment and I’ll do my best to have a makeup artist answer!

That said, a vivid dark lip can be pretty intimidating, so I tapped into celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman of Vanitymark for some tips. Here are his tips!

To ease into deep shades, try a sheer gloss version. The shade in the tube will have a huge color impact, but it goes on sheer and lets your natural lip shine through. Kind of like the stain from a lollipop!

If you want more of a goth, matte look, try a lipstick form. Beware though, the deep, solid pigment in lipsticks can be a bit aging. I prefer a gloss format.

Go sparse on eye makeup – save the smoky eyes for another time. Only one feature on your face should pop, and with a dark pucker, you want all the attention on your lips. You still want lots o’ lash though… maybe try a silver liner!

What do you think of the Megan Fox lip look? Is this a trend you’ll be rocking?

1. FOUNDATION – Don’t go too alabaster. No matter what your natural skin tone is, mix in a bit of bronzer into your foundation for a nice lift of color.

2. LIPS – No browns or mauves allowed! Pick something juicy for your lips – like a watermelon or cherry gloss. Glosses aren’t heavy and really make your lips pop.

3. HAIR – As you get older, soften and lighten up your hair. If you’re chestnut brown, add some subtle dark and golden blond highlights.

4. HAIRDOS – You want touchable hair that you can run your fingers through, so stay away from helmet head styles and embrace styling products that leave your hair flexible and soft (skip the hairspray!)

5. PLASTIC SURGERY – Many women consider going under the knife as they get older, but remember to go easy! Your goal should be to look good for your age, not to look like you did in college.

Do you have a great tip on how to look younger? If so, leave a comment and share the love!

Next up in our series of Makeup Minute How To’s are tips on making foundation last. Foundation is an essential for women who want coverage but getting your makeup to last the duration of the day can be a challenge.
Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman (who keeps stars like Reba McIntyre and Jenna Fischer looking gorgeous) gave us his top three tips for foundation with staying power:
1. My first trick to getting a foundation that holds up is to find a long wear formulation. I LOVE Revlon’s ColorStay Active Light Foundation. It’s super sheer, comes in an amazing color range and has SPF 25. [...]
Post from: Makeup Minute

That’s not even the best part. The stuff STAYS. Oh, it won’t come off till you take it off. It’s so lightweight it lets the skin breath. Very important in the warmer months.

2. Switch to an oil free moisturizer. Apply while face is still damp. Denser moisturizers can sometimes ‘break down’ foundation. Lock in moisture right after cleansing and allow your moisturizer to dry completely. You’ll use less foundation and it will really absorb and adhere to skin. This trick is all about timing. Origins Plantidote Mega-Mushroom Face Lotion (an oil free moisturizer) is one of my faves!

3. Set with loose powder and a big fluffy brush. A compact is good for touch ups but for a solid, diffused finish to just applied foundation there is nothing better than loose powder. Finely milled powder works best to really get in there and ’set’ every little area. A big fluffy brush insures even distribution. NARS Loose Powder has an amazing feel and ultra soft on the skin.
