When Coastal Scents alerted me of their free samples a few days ago, I got a little caught up looking through their website. And fabulously enough, today I got to try their Glossi Glaze and Concealer A.

When Coastal Scents alerted me of their free samples a few days ago, I got a little caught up looking through their website. And fabulously enough, today I got to try their Glossi Glaze and Concealer A.

The Glossi Glaze is pretty unqiue. Their website states that it can go between being a lip gloss and a lipstick. It comes in a glass jar and it is a thick “balm” that you can apply with your lip brush or finger. I didn’t have a lip brush available, so I just used my finger. You rub your finger atop the balm until it beings to “melt” a little from your body heat and then you apply. Amazingly enough, it glides on your lips like gloss yet looks like a shimmery lipstick. I received mine in Bare Naked Glaze, which is simply beautiful. It is perfect for when you want to do a no makeup or even sunkissed look. The bonus is how moisturizing it is. No wait–the true bonus is the fact that this Glossi Glaze is only $5! You can buy the glazes separate, but they also sell two sets: In the Tans and In the Pinks, which come with 3 glazes, a lip brush and mica shimmer for only around $20.

Concealer A has convinced me that mineral concealer can work just as good as regular concealer. I applied it to half my face just to see if I could notice a difference. Sure enough, the splotchy skin I have appeared more even toned. Concealer A is a pure pigment powder and you don’t need to load it on to work; a small amount brushed on will do. A 3 gram jar is only $8.95! They do sell a sample of it for just $2 if you want to test it out first.

My shine follows me everywhere like a bad habit. So thankfully the generous Cheri at Urban Apothecary reads this blog to know how my shiney complexion boils my blood. She sent along Got Blot and Make Under to see if she could resolve this problem child for me.

Got Blot is a transparent powder (do not be scared that it is pure white) that is appropriate for every skin tone. The powder is lightweight and no matter how many times you need to dab it on, it won’t build up like a pancake. It contains “tea tree oil to help fight acne, aloe to soothe and calm, and vitamin E to help repair skin damage.” As those of us who battle the shine because of our combination or oily skin know, acne is always there waiting in the wings; ready to pounce at the most inconvenient time. Like when you are going to your high school reunion, going on a date, your Aunt Ethel wants to take 20 pictures of you…so its great to be able to use a product that can multi-task.

I really liked Got Blot because 1. It comes in a compact and can easily fit in your handbag to take with you 2. The results are immediate 3. The whole acne fighting thing.

Make Under is actually found in the Skin Care part of Urban Apothecary’s site. Make Under comes in two formulas: original and matte. This is a primer that preps your skin to look flawless when you apply your makeup. You only need the teeniest amount to get smooth, even coverage. Naturally, I was sent the matte formula and it worked well to keep the shine at bay.

While I am talking about Urban Apothecary, they have a section of their website where you can submit information for a Digi Makeover. Its a very cool way to get personalized product recommendations. While you’re on the site, you can also read up on their 5 minute makeover .

Here’s what Jane says about this product:

A subtle, versatile eyelid primer and highlighter that doubles as a shadow for a smooth, fresh look, day or night.

• Maintain smooth, soft color for hours.
• Lend lids a moist, shimmering touch.
• Smooth, neutral color is compatible with a wide variety of shadows.
• Multi-purpose primer doubles as a highlighter and shadow.
• Advanced, durable technology won’t crease or smear.

A reader on Beauty Pro inquired how this lid primer measured up to Benefit Cosmetics Lemon-Aid. So here is the breakdown:

Jane Iredale’s Lemon Lid Primer had a creamy thick consistency to it. It applied very easily, going on smooth. Although it was thick when I swiped my finger over the jar, it did not appear thick at all once applied. The lemon color immediately muted my red eye area.

The Lemon Lid Primer worked great both with powder eyeshadow and eyeshadow that is applied wet, such as Kiss My Face’s 3 Way Color. My eyeshadow, no matter which kind, did not smear or crease.

For a few days, I tested both Lemon-Aid and the Lemon Lid Primer, one on each eye, to see if there was a difference. Both worked well to mute redness, both worked well with powder eyeshadow. The only differences I noticed was that Lemon-Aid was a thinner product that didn’t apply as smooth as Jane Iredale’s. The 3 Way Color also came off within a few hours, while with Jane’s it stayed on. The only other obvious difference is that Jane Iredale’s is a mineral makeup and Lemon-Aid is not. Other than that, I really didn’t notice too much of a difference between the two products.

Do I prefer one over the other? It’s hard to say. Both are really good products. I do find myself reaching for the Lemon Lid Primer over Lemon-Aid just because I like the smoother application and knowing that if I feel like using 3 Way Color on my lids, that it will stay put.

Have you used this product? What did you think?

It comes as #2, which is medium. boi-ing is supposed to be a concealer for under your eyes to cover up your dark circles, but I found that it was also good at being a concealer along the sides of my nose to cover up redness.
boi-ing is a very thin feeling concealer and even though it is not slick or greasy, it glides on very smoothly. You only need to dab a small amount and blend, which really looks flawless under your foundation [...]
Post from: Makeup Minute

It comes as #2, which is medium. boi-ing is supposed to be a concealer for under your eyes to cover up your dark circles, but I found that it was also good at being a concealer along the sides of my nose to cover up redness.

boi-ing is a very thin feeling concealer and even though it is not slick or greasy, it glides on very smoothly. You only need to dab a small amount and blend, which really looks flawless under your foundation or loose powder. I found the medium to be a perfect match to my skin coloring, which sometimes borders on the fair side.

I like this concealer, I just wish that it was meant as an all over concealer as well.

If you’ve tried boi-ing, what did you think?

When I was in Manhattan, a friend had mentioned that tarte’s Little Blot Book was the ultimate in shine control. As a girl whose shine sometimes affects even those wearing sunglasses, I knew I had to try it. Shine, with me, has been a never ending battle.
When I received my Little Blot Book, it indeed looked like a book. Adorable, yet stylish. When I popped it open, there was a decent sized mirror, mattifying powder, a small brush and blotting papers. It’s compact, yet still gives you an enormous amount of product.

Adorable, yet stylish. When I popped it open, there was a decent sized mirror, mattifying powder, a small brush and blotting papers. It’s compact, yet still gives you an enormous amount of product.

I am an ingredients fanatic, so it impressed me to find out that the mattifying powder contained: Vitamin E and A, Green Tea, Chamomile and Aloe. So I could control shine and nourish my skin? Excellent!

So does it work? Yes! In the morning, I use the blotting papers, brush on the powder, then apply my loose powder over it. The mattifying powder feels very light, so you don’t get that caked on feeling when you add loose powder later. I only had to touch up a few times during the day and the shine control lasted for hours. Love it!

This is a product I now carry as a staple in my handbag. My battle with shine control is now over.

Another product from tarte that I have heard great things about is their cheek stain. Have you tried it? Let me know how it works!

I know I will probably catch some heat from this review, but honestly my feelings are so-so about this product. All of my beauty blogger friends have raved and raved about Smashbox Photo Finish, but I feel just “meh” about it.
I looked high and low to try to find out what the ingredients were in this product, as the website and the product itself doesn’t say. I purchased the travel size Photo Finish and was shocked to find such a teenie tiny bottle to be considered “travel size.” However, the amount of product you need is so minute, this could [...]
Post from: Makeup Minute

I purchased the travel size Photo Finish and was shocked to find such a teenie tiny bottle to be considered “travel size.” However, the amount of product you need is so minute, this could be the reason for the tiny bottle.

Photo Finish is like a gel and I was betting it was a silicone primer, but I can’t confirm it since no one seems to want to list the ingredients anywhere. What I didn’t like about it was how greasy it felt on my skin. The instructions say to apply it where you have deep wrinkles and lines and where your skin in rough in texture. Well that is basically my entire face. So I smoothed the product over my entire face. The first time I applied it without using any of my typical anti-shine products and just had such a major shine-fest from it. The next few times I did apply various anti-shine products, but none seemed to make a difference.

However, Photo Finish does deliver on its promise of giving a flawless look under your makeup and appears to fill in your lines so that lines and wrinkles appear minimal. My skin looked like velvet.

I did love the overall look of my skin when using it, I just hated to look so shiney. Since my skin is naturally oily in my t-zone, and also happens to be the same spots I have wrinkles, I’m not sure how else to use this product without having to compromise on the awful shine. I was so desperately wanting to love it, especially seeing that I can also buy the Photo Finish Correcting Primer in green to offset my red.

If you have suggestions so that I can love this product, please post them in the comments!

The Lola Anti-Shine Gel was one of the samples I chose to come with my recent Sephora purchase. I’m always on the hunt for the perfect anti-shine product–one that will mattify but also be long lasting.
Unfortunately this anti-shine gel didn’t do much mattifying to suit my needs. The sample gave me about 3 uses and I applied the gel to my shinest areas; around my nose, my cheeks and my forehead. It did do some slight mattifying, but nothing substantial and certainly nothing that lasted a very long time.
