Was it just me or were Paula Abdul’s lips really big with the wrong colored gloss on them tonight? I had only tuned into American Idol tonight to see if Sanjaya would do the KFC bowl hairdo, but was agast to see these really huge lips on Paula that looked like she tried to minimize by putting on super pale pink lip gloss. Almost like Meg Ryan after her plastic surgery and grossly huge lips…except Paula added lip gloss to the ordeal to make it all the more horrific.
Seriously, did anyone else notice this?

Although, I do admit, she looks very normal here on her website. How un-Jackson of her.

Today was an event I hold twice a year to raise money for The American Cancer Society (and we raised $1000 Woo!) It’s made up of crafters and direct sales vendors. One such vendor was a Mary Kay mother-daughter team or “Double the Satin Hands Trouble” as I like to call them.

Ok this post really has nothing to do with makeup, but it has to do with Mary Kay and they sell makeup, so I deem it appropriate for this blog.

One big rule I have, is that you cannot be aggressive towards guests…that means trying to sell your products.

Alas, like oil to water, Double Trouble decided this rule did not apply to them. I watched them as they actually grabbed people by the hand and brought them over to their whole Satin Hands setup. Other times, they approached people the ole “face model” way, except instead complimenting them on their hair or something else non-makeup related.

I watched them go to each ACS volunteer and talk up Satin Hands and just act beyond “assertive” and that is being nice. So when Miss Queen of Satin whooped de doo Hands came to my table while I had a customer, some displeasing things took place.

Basically the customer I was talking with was telling me about her husband’s cracked hands, I told her about Country Bunny Bath & Body’s Lotion Bars and she bought one of the men’s scents. As she walked away she said, “I hope this solves his problem.” Miss MK asked her what the problem was, the customer told her and Miss “Assertive” gave the whole Satin Hands speech. The customer looked baffled and pointed out that she just bought products from me to resolve the issue, and Miss SUPER Assertive tried to talk her out of it. In-front-of-my-table!

In my sternest voice I told her that the customer had bought a beeswax item from me that was quite marvelous and proven to cure cracked hands. She shrugged and said, “Beeswax is alright.”

Mary Kay rep.’s have always tried to have the image of being classy, but I’m sorry, the actions today were pretty class-less. I mean seriously, what would you have done if a rep. did this to you with your customer?

Rudeness people, complete Satin Hands pink cadillac rudeness.

I use the word Artist pretty loosely here. This Makeup “Artist” is no true Makeup Artist per say, but more into the artform itself. The canvas? My bathroom walls and cabinet doors.
Basically the lesson I need to learn is 1. Do not leave my makeup in the makeup bag unzipped 2. leaving such makeup out on display is very tempting to little children 3. make sure that the most important makeup is placed way up high where a certain 2 year old cannot reach it.

Lesson learned, but how can I be mad at that beautiful grinning child?

If you read ebeautydaily then you are well aware of her post back in June commenting on Sweet Buzz’s post on Mary Kay. Basically the story is about Mary Kay rep.’s “Face Model” speech. I’m in no way trying to bash Mary Kay rep.’s, as I know quite a few who do not employ this tactic and are very wonderful people to work with. Also, I am in direct sales myself, and it is just not nice to bash someone.

However, I couldn’t help myself but to make this post today because prior to Christina’s post, I had never heard of any Mary Kay rep.’s approaching people in supermarket’s and asking them to be a Face Model. In fact, one of Christina’s readers, a former MK rep., posted the entire script in the comments section.

So you can imagine the good laugh I had for myself when I finally got to witness this “event” first hand last week.

As I walked into the supermarket there were two women whispering to each other with their eyes dotting all around the produce section. They appeared to be discussing some big secret while eyeing up who was in the general vacinity. It appeared odd to me, until I saw that they were all dolled up looking very professionally dressed. People who live in my area would see that they stood out like a sore thumb because no one here dresses to the hilt to go grocery shopping. Besides the fact that these ladies were simply carrying a grocery basket, but not really shopping (more eyeing the aisles).

So as I shopped I watched them continue to walk up and down the aisles and whisper to each other. They looked like predators on the hunt for their prey. As I began to turn down the laundry aisle, I saw they had come in for the kill. They cornered a mom shopping with her newborn. One of the women was talking to the baby and saying just how cute she was, while the other was…tilting her head, putting her hand over her heart and biting her lower lip while talking to the unsuspecting mom. And then that is when I heard it…..

“You would make a great Face Model….”

For the love of God, I busted out laughing. I certainly didn’t mean to laugh so loud, but after being engaged in the saga going on in the comments section of Christina’s post, I couldn’t help it. The women stopped talking and gave me a quick glance looking slightly annoyed. I shook my head giggling and walked away.
