To celebrate, beauty entrepreneur Poppy King has partnered with Count Me In For Women’s Economic Independence to launch a sheer fire engine red lip gloss – aptly dubbed Fired Up Power Gloss – to help fuel the fires of women who are creating new jobs and leading the nation out of recession.

100 % of the profits from the sale of Fired Up will go to Count Me In, the leading national not-for-profit provider of resources, business education, and community for women entrepreneurs.

“More women than ever are becoming both the primary breadwinners and caretakers in their households,” says Poppy King. “And as women begin to dominate the labor force, I wanted to let women in on a tool I have used for years to help boost my confidence to face my own challenges, the red lip. It’s just a small action women can take everyday to get in the right mindset and get Fired Up to make an impact.”

FIRED UP is available exclusively at www.lipstickqueen.com for $14.

Here’s what I’ve tried:
Color Fever Gloss in Sunray (iridescent) and Seashell (fuchsia): Do not be afraid of Seashell. In the glass tube it appears hot pink, but once applied it is a nice berry color. For me as the time wore on, it had more of a flushed lip color to it. Sunray looks great alone or paired over lipstick.

Although my undertones are B/R, the Prescriptives makeup artist used R/O in Neutron on me, It is similar to the orangy/peach color you see in the picture above. The color is beautiful and it adds amazing sparkle alone or paired over your lipstick. It’s not thick or tacky and just gives you that extra va va voom!

If you have this product, which shade do you have and do you find that it compliments your undertone?

Just like Royal Assets, Viva Glamorous comes in a gorgeous antique looking embellished crown case. I recently discovered MESS New York, a mineral makeup boutique in NY. They use pure Mica in all of their products and I was intrigued by their Lip Varnish, which is supposed to be like a liquid lipstick. I have Murray Hill, which MESS describes as a “Pink Lemonade Glaze with a Fairy Dust Finish.” We all know how I love pink.

The consistency on your lips is not tacky and does provide the coverage that a frost lipstick would give you. MESS’ Lip Varnish also seems to last a bit longer than a typical gloss would last.

MESS New York is also available online and is currently having a sale of up to 60% off. www.messnewyork.com

It seems that California Kissin was a one hit wonder, soon to be miniturized and is now part of the “Justine Case” Wrapped and Ready product category of Benefit Cosmetics. I’ve had California Kissin (in the “old” full size version) for a while and feel mixed about it…
California Kissin is Benefit’s “fake it” gloss for whiter looking teeth. It’s a clear gloss with lots of blue shimmer. Its minty scent and taste will keep you feeling like you just brushed your teeth (or you just have some Colgate Total action going on).

The mint isn’t a bad thing, just not expected in a gloss. When I think of mint on my lips it’s usually with lip balm. Even though there is so much blue shimmer in the tube that it looks like you will be applying blue gloss to your lips–no worries, it is a clear gloss. The blue shimmer spreads out evenly and will in no way make you feel like you are reliving the 80’s. I actually liked the way the color looked on my lips…but did my teeth look whiter? Maybe a shade, but nothing substantial.
