Cheap Thrill:Maybelline SuperStay Concealer

While I’ve encountered many great concealers over the years (Cle de Peau, Bobbi Brown and Max Factor, among them), I’m ALWAYS interested in testing the newest in the hopes it might be my ‘holy grail’.
My latest try is Maybelline’s new SuperStay Concealer and I’m impressed!
This long-wearing, yet lightweight, formula stays flawless (no creases in the undereye area) and doesn’t budge for hours. (Maybelline claims 24 hours, but I always make it a point to remove my makeup before bed, so I can’t weigh in on that!)
There’s quite a bit of coverage as well and the wand applicator makes application a …read more
Max Factor Discontinued in the US

So…remember my super-enthusiastic review of Max Factor’s Erace? Well, US girls, you’d better snap it up fast – along with any other favorites from the brand. Women’s Wear Daily reported today that Proctor & Gamble, parent company of Max Factor, will begin phasing out the brand here in America early next year, though it will still be sold globally.
I, for one, am surprised and saddened. First of all, the company still makes great products at an affordable price point. But perhaps more importantly, Max Factor (the man and the brand) are a big piece of makeup history.
Here’s a bit of …read more
Makeup Artist Favorite: Max Factor Erace

I’m on a forever-long journey to find the best concealer. While I’ve tested several that I like, I’ve yet to find one that does it all though Max Factor’s classic Erace comes close.
Formulated decades ago by the actual Max Factor himself, Erace is a medium to full coverage stick concealer with peachy undertones that effectively cover dark circles. Max Factor’s celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, who works with Katy Perry, Kyra Sedgwick, Annie Lennox and Rosario Dawson among others, recently confessed to me that this was a staple in his kit long before he began working with the brand, along …read more

Makeup Monday: Your Makeup Questions Answered

In lui of a reader question this week, I want to bring up a debate that is happening in the comments of my Max Factor Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascarapost.
One reader says that mascara should only be black, brown or blue-black. Others argue against it and also feel that cosmetics should be fun, which is disagree against by a reader.
It’s definitely been interesting to watch and I really think you should check it out and add your 2 cents.
What I want to know is–should mascara only be black, brown and blue? I’ve worn Besame’s Sculpture Lash and that was Plum colored. …read more

Have you seen this new product from Max Factor called Vivid Impact Highlighting Mascara? It’s a new double ended mascara that highlights lashes and draws closer attention to the eyes.
Here’s some makeup tips on using it:
Application:
· Step One: Apply the basecoat from the very base of the top lashes to the tip, working the wand outwards.
· Step Two: Wait for the basecoat to dry (Note: if you don’t wait for it to dry the highlighting top coat won’t show up as vivid and will blend with the basecoat as opposed to highlighting lashes)
· Step Three A: Apply …read more

Today I was bombarded with work and a little distracted…my 8 year old asked if he could use a marker–markers are forbidden in my household–I said no. 10 minutes later my 3 year old comes downstairs with “self-made tatoos” with black being the color of choice. I look at said 8 year old, who admitted he defied me and used a marker anyway, then left it on the table where said 3 year old got ahold of it.
I go upstairs to find some black “murals” drawn all over my walls, my 5 year old’s artist table and their TV. My …read more

I’m not one to stick to a particular brand and just about everyday I mix and match my makeup to suit my mood. I would find it inherently blaaaaahh to just do my face with just Este Lauder or Nars each day. How boring.
Some of my favorite mix and match products are:
* Lumiere Mineral Makeup’s Lavender Pearl along my lower lid with Jane Iredale’s Think Pink eyeshadow trio on my upper lid and brow bone.
* NYX Comsetics Super Volume Lip Plumper and Lulu Beauty’s Velvet Lip Lustre.
* Max Factor Volume Couture for thickness and length and Imju Fiberwig Mascara for …read more
