My latest try is Maybelline’s new SuperStay Concealer and I’m impressed!

This long-wearing, yet lightweight, formula stays flawless (no creases in the undereye area) and doesn’t budge for hours. (Maybelline claims 24 hours, but I always make it a point to remove my makeup before bed, so I can’t weigh in on that!)

There’s quite a bit of coverage as well and the wand applicator makes application a breeze.  For my dark circles, I tap on three small dots and then blend; for blemishes, I dot the wand directly on just once before blending.

SuperStay Concealer is available in five shades and has a suggested retail price of $9.99 (is it just me or are drugstore makeup prices getting higher and higher?)  Pick it up at mass retailers near you!

I, for one, am surprised and saddened.  First of all, the company still makes great products at an affordable price point.  But perhaps more importantly, Max Factor (the man and the brand) are a big piece of makeup history.

Here’s a bit of trivia for you – Max Factor perfected the first makeup specifically created for motion picture use all the way back in 1912 – it was a thinner greasepaint in cream form, packaged in a jar and created in 12 precisely graduated shades. Amazing, right?

Formulated decades ago by the actual Max Factor himself, Erace is a medium to full coverage stick concealer with peachy undertones that effectively cover dark circles.  Max Factor’s celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey, who works with Katy Perry, Kyra Sedgwick, Annie Lennox and Rosario Dawson among others, recently confessed to me that this was a staple in his kit long before he began working with the brand, along with the iconic 2000 Calorie Mascara.  And did I mention the price? Erace retails for under $5 in most drugstores!

 The only catch is that Erace is only available in three shades – Fair, Neutral and Medium. Thankfully, Fair works nicely on my lighter skin tone but hopefully, Max Factor will release a larger variety of hues in the near future so that gals of all skintones can appreciate the wonder of Erace.

One reader says that mascara should only be black, brown or blue-black. Others argue against it and also feel that cosmetics should be fun, which is disagree against by a reader.

It’s definitely been interesting to watch and I really think you should check it out and add your 2 cents.

What I want to know is–should mascara only be black, brown and blue? I’ve worn Besame’s Sculpture Lash and that was Plum colored. Are cosmetics meant to be fun–or worn only to enhance your beauty?

Here’s some makeup tips on using it:

Application:

· Step One: Apply the basecoat from the very base of the top lashes to the tip, working the wand outwards.

· Step Two: Wait for the basecoat to dry (Note: if you don’t wait for it to dry the highlighting top coat won’t show up as vivid and will blend with the basecoat as opposed to highlighting lashes)

· Step Three A: Apply the top coat on the very tips of the top lashes and on the bottom lashes to create a highlighted look with a shot of color.

· Step Three B: Apply a few coats of top coat from base to tip on lower and upper lashes for a lot of color

· Step Three C: Apply topcoat on lower lashes only to create a multi-dimensional lash look.

Wearability:

· For green or hazel eyes – try Burning Bordeux shade to make the color of eyes pop

· For blue eyes – Try 24 Karat Brown to make Blue eyes pop and add a light, gold tint to lashes (need to emphasizes gold lightens lashes)

· For brown eyes- All shades work, especially the black and pink combo to make eyes pop

· For all – The most versatile is the black/silver combination when applied correctly above

I go upstairs to find some black “murals” drawn all over my walls, my 5 year old’s artist table and their TV. My blood began to boil when I saw my Boots No7 Quick Thinking Wipes on the counter. I grabbed one and swiped it over my son’s skin. Where he didn’t “pool” the marker, the ink instantly came off. I then used it on my walls and the table and it removed the marker. I simply had to go over it after with a wet paper towel.

So this got me thinking–what have YOU done with makeup that is unconventional or creative?
