the body shop shimmer smudgersOops! The Body’s Shop’s Shimmer Smudgers have been sitting in a bin in my office since August! I gave them a test run when I first received them before their launch and then stored them and forgot all about them.

Unfortunately, I most likely forgot about these eye powders because I was not all that impressed. The eye shadow applicator is similar to a lip gloss one. It makes it somewhat difficult to apply the eye powder without it being a bit messy. Your wand is already dipped into the powder, which you pull out vs. swiping a brush across a pressed shadow. Or if you use minerals, swirling and tapping the excess.

Now we all want well pigmented eye shadow, but to the Shimmer Smudger’s downfall the pigment is really rich making these colors very dark upon application. I tried blending it out, which really took some work. In the end, I ended up looking like I had been punched in the eye (or put my makeup on in the dark).

The Shimmer Smudger’s are offered in 3 colors:

Slate Green: A mossy green with iridescent green glitter.
Burnished Metal: An earthy, coal gray with iridescent multi-color glitter.
Etched Brown: A rusty bronze shade with iridescent pink glitter.

So sadly, I am not a fan. Have you used them? Do you agree or disagree?

The applicator seems to be that product’s downfall. Too bad, though — it could have been a good idea.

yeah i love the idea of a loose pigment that comes in a tube-like container with an applicator. it seems like it is never done right though. its a shame that pigment cant be a “to-go” product…. *sigh*

I haven’t tried these, but i did try another brand that used the same exact container. I was very excited, but when i tried it was very disappointed. The powder got all over the place when i took the applicator out of the container, there was too much on it, and when i put it on i had to blend it out for what seemd like forever to get it to look good. in the end it looked ok, but not worth the effort. Stay away form loose powders like this. It just doesn’t work.

I don’t like that you can’t really control the amount of product you use. It’s a great idea, with a not-so-amazing execution. I’d rather just use normal pigments like MAC’s and HiP’s with a good mixing medium.

yes, these SEEM like a good idea, but they are way too messy. this is almost like the revlon bedroom eyes powderliner. soo much product and it takes forever to blend, and even then, it’s not even your desired look anymore. thanks for saving us from this buy!

I have this in the grey, I really like the shimmer and pigment but it is messy to apply. First time I tried it, bits were falling under my eye! It was horrible cause it stuck to my concealer! Lesson learned, so I have a method of applying it:

Face up, (looking at the ceilling, kinda) with mirror in one hand and apply. It’s less messy cause gravity is keeping it on the lids when u apply.

Another thing I liked is that it lasts pretty well. Went to the club and still had almost the same amount of shadow on after :)
