Too Much Makeup, Too Little Space

makeup trainLet’s see. Right now I have makeup in makeup bags, in drawers, on the counter top, in my medicine cabinet and in my handbag. If you only saw my countertop right now, you would hardly know its white. Everything it literally back to back, covering the entire counter.

My husband says he wants me to get shelves to hold everything. That’s probably a good idea, however I also have a plethora of hair products, shower gels, lotions, facial products….well you get the idea. Basically, my bathroom could be its own beauty store. Can anyone relate?

So I’ve been thinking about getting a makeup train, at least to keep the makeup part organized. I saw the one above at Sephora that I am considering. Do any of you makeup addicts have a train you keep your makeup in? I’m looking for recommendations on one that is spacious and can store easily under my sink.

If you don’t use a makeup train, yet have tons of makeup, how do you keep it organized without it taking over your bathroom?

I actually have three train cases and I need to replace the one that I use most often. I’ve found the best bargains on eBay - you can get quite a large one for around $30.

Another idea is to use a tool box or tackle box. I’ve seen that done quite successfully and am thinking of doing it myself.

I did get a Sephora train case for Christmas, and I love it! Though I don’t keep it under my sink - it’s on the ledge above my bathtub in easy reaching distance from my sink. I don’t think I’ve emassed quite the makeup collection that you probably have, but it holds all of my makeup/skincare with room to spare. I used to have every type of makeup in it’s own makeup bag, and the bags were then stored in one of those plastic drawer towers - I like being able to see everything laid out in the train case instead.

I have the Sephora train and it’s the best thing ever. I would recomend one!

My large train case is filled to the max with all of my makeup. I store the case in the cabinet below my bathroom sink. You’ll find that the train case will save so much space and is so easy to store.

I actually use an old Caboodle that has a two-piece sliding top level rather than the pull-up-and-out compartments that are now so common including the train case above). I really like my Caboodle and would buy another like it if I could find one very similar and large enough. I find that I can slide the compartments about with one hand, whereas it generally takes two hands to work the compartments in other makeup holders that I’ve tried (and returned). The design is simpler, too, so there’s less to go wrong. I really don’t understand why the other type of case has become so overwhelmingly popular.

i am using the Estee Lauder train case that has been available for sale at Christmas time. The train is so full that I can’t zip it at the moment. My Mom gave me an extra one that she had and I really need to use it so that I can zip the other.
I also have other makeup bags stashed around with other makeup that I don’t use as much but I still want to keep it for future use. In the bottom of my train case I lined it with some paper towels to help keep it clean. This way if powder should spill there’s something to catch the mess.

I always go through my makeup each month and give away items that I know I never will use. However, I still have a whole bunch of items.

I use all the free make up bags that i get with gift with purchase. I label them, lipstick or shadow, etc. Then I stick all those bags in one drawer!

I don’t have a makeup train and keep all my goodies in an open box (a pretty one) in my bathroom. Sometimes it gets out of hand and I have to sift through and purge my products, but most of the time it’s convenient and fast.

The same thing has happened to me. My room is basically a clutter of makeup and other beauty products. I never feel like throwing them out!

Since my last post in April, I have 3 additional train cases. All of them are crammed under my sink. I love make up but for the past few months, I promised myself that I wouldn’t buy anymore cosmetics. It’s getting ridiculous. Instead of makeup, I’m focusing on buying products that are beneficial to my skin. Exfoliation products, lotions, facial masks, bath products, etc. Thankfully, I don’t purchase these items a lot, but they’re so good to have!
