Super Quick Makeup Tip: Keep Lipstick Off Your Teeth

Congratulations! You’ve found the perfect lipstick shade. That’s Major Accomplishment #1. Now, to tackle Major Accomplishment #2 – keeping that glorious lipstick off of your teeth!

Not to worry, it’s actually quite easy to do. Here, a few tips to keep your new shade on your pout and not on your chompers:

Use a lipstick primer before you slather on your color. This quick tip helps keep lipstick in place and eliminates bleeding and the color migration.
Dust lipstick with a loose powder to set the color. Just grab a facial tissue and separate it into 1-ply. Place the tissue over your lips, then dust on the powder. Voila! A set look without the powder showing through.
And finally, after applying lipstick (particularly when you’re on the go and don’t have time to utilize the first two tips), place your index finger between your lips and slide it out. Any extraneous color will go there instead of on your teeth.

Lipstick Tips: Red Carpet Red to Everyday Red

If you’ve read my beauty blog for a while then you know I always say red lipstick may not be good for everyone. So when Christina Zilber, a makeup stylist for Jouer Cosmetics, approached me about the red lip trend that we are sure to see at the Golden Globes, I asked her if she’d be willing to help all of us understand what other colors on our face can help make a red lip work for everyone…and she did.

Red Carpet Red

For a true dramatic red carpet look, Christina created the Simone hydrating lipstick – a rich true red that should be worn for that glamorous holiday party or big night out.

Everyday Red

Love the trend, but looking for a more subtle approach that fits your everyday lifestyle? Christina recommended a gloss because it is more sheer; try the Riviera Moisturizing lip gloss – a true red with a light shimmer.

Christina recommends that when doing a red lip, keep the rest of your makeup clean and simple. Let your lips say it all!

She recommends a Praline Powder Eyeshadow- a soft, creamy pearl that will add a subtle glow. A soft black eyeliner should be used with a thin line on the upper lash (always wear black liner with a red lip.)

Champagne Highlighter- soft natural highlight will keep your skin looking fresh and luminous and will accentuate the eye without making the look overwhelming.

On the cheeks, Christina recommends a soft natural rose blush applying a light wash of color. You want to make a statement without the look overpowering you.

Benefit Cosmetics Full Finish Lipstick

If there is one thing that is my favorite from Benefit Cosmetics, it’s their lipsticks. Just as I swooned over their Silky Finish Lipstick, my knees are melting over their Full Finish Lipstick as well. I have mine in Lady’s Choice (pictured), which is a nude color and has that flesh-toned pigment to it.

Here’s what I think is so fabulous about it:

*Glides on smooth
*Makes your lips feel great
*Is a universal color for any skin tone
*Rich pigment for a great looking color

Unique Way to Store Your Lipstick

Are you like me? You own more lipsticks and glosses than, say, every woman on your block? Maybe your town? Yeah, that would be me. So I had an interesting idea to store them…sort of makeup train meets skillful hunter–an amo case.

Never thought about that? Just look at the picture. If you look quick enough, didn’t you think you just saw a case of lipstick? It’s perfect for lipgloss too. Store everything upside down so that the label is showing making the color and brand you are looking for easy to find.

New Makeup Alert: Prescriptives Lipshine

It’s been a long while since I’ve talked about a product from Prescriptives, but my eyes couldn’t help but stare lustfully at their new Lipshine that just hit counters this week.

Lipshine looks like a lipstick, but it’s meant to give the shine of a gloss. I know my friend Teri over at Aging Fabulous recently Twittered that she is all about lipstick lately–I bet she would love this just as much as I would (cause you know I am all about the glossy shine).

Stila Rock the Vote Red

Although red does not look good on me, Stila’s Rock the Vote Red is worth a mention. Stila and Rock the Vote have collaborated for a limited edition lipstick meant to inspire women to exercise their right to vote.

Side note–Stila, lipstick does not inspire me to vote, but seeing my country vote in a President who will get us out of this economic mess does. End of side note!
