Uneven Skin Tone? Rosacea? Look here.

Hello my name is Shannon and I have an uneven skin tone. Anyone else? I know I’m not alone and in fact, I have a few friends that have Rosacea and want to bury their face when they leave the house.

While you can’t rid yourself of your uneven skin tone or Rosacea, there are some things you can do to tone down the ruddiness.

First and foremost would obviously be to make sure you are implementing a good skincare system. That means removing your makeup every night, exfoliating your face once a week, using a good cleanser on your face morning and night, using a gentle toner, and making sure you moisturize prior to applying your makeup and before you hit the hay. Keeping your skin healthy and moisturized is key to preventing further redness due to irritation and dry skin. As most people know, I am a rep. for Country Bunny Bath & Body and I utilize their Face Collection (I even have customers with Rosacea who use it). Regardless of which skincare system you use, the thing is…you need to use one.

For makeup, it’s all in how you work it. Sometimes concealers that match your skin tone are not the answer, but in fact you need something that will counter the redness. These color correctors help in lessening the appearance of the ruddiness in your skin. While I occassionally will use a green corrector, the most popular out there is yellow.

300 correctThe green corrector I use is from Twisted Fayte. It is mineral makeup and I just dust it over my skin. I admit it scared me the first time I used it and looked like the Jolly Green Giant (only shorter), but once I applied my normal foundation and powder over it, the grinch look disappeared and I was surprised at the results. My skin looked the best it has in a very long time.lemon aid

I’ve heard rave reviews about Benefit’s Lemon Aid from fellow beauty bloggers. This is mainly for your eyes for both redness and dark circles. Lemon Aid is a soft yellow correcting cream.

More Benefit fix-it’s are their You’re Bluffing Correcting Stick and Bluff Dust, both yellow correctors, as well as their Get Even and Play Sticks, which are skin tone colored correctors and concealers.

Colorescience - Corrector Brush - SPF 20 - Mint Condition

Another one I have heard of but haven’t used is Colorescience’s Corrector Brush with SPF 20. They sell it in Mint Condition (shown above), which is an aqua green or Yellow Rose of Texas, which is yellow.

If you have been using a product to conceal your uneven skin tone or Rosacea, please be sure to let us know what you’ve been using in the comments.

I’ve been using the Physician’s Formula Powder Palatte in Green. I don’t know if they still make it or not since my compact’s about three years old (and still without even a dent after everyday use) and I can’t find it anywhere online. But I love it because it has this light shimmer and just enough green to take most of the red out without using foundation, just concealer. Fabulous for those mornings where sleep is more important!

I have been using Philosophy’s The Supernatural tinted moisturizer which evens out my skintone overall and then Benefit’s You’re Bluffing – although sometimes I just pat on a dab of Bo-oing. But, I also use Bare Essentuals a lot and was really using that pretty much exclusively and feel that had a lot to do with my rosecea calming down in the first place. Well that and the Makeup is Optional Skincare line from Philosphy that I have been using about a year and a half now and love. I love Benefit though and they have a cute little set right now called The Realness of Concealment which is a great way to try all the goodies – it lasts forever as you use so very litte.

I’ve been thinking of getting the Realness of Concealness for some time. Maybe it’s time to finally make the purchase! ;)

Shannon, you will be glad you did. There really is a lot to love in it. I had never used any of their correction till I got this. I was so amazed at how much I love all of it, especially the lemon aid and Boi-ing, but also the High Beam, which has made such an astounding difference (especially on my eyes) that I had to get a full sized.Although like I said, there is a lot of product in the kit.

My husband even commented that I looked rested or something. LOL I think it really makes my eyes pop a bit and makes my browline look a bit higher and just overall gives me a much needed little lift. And remember Sephora has the cool bonus sample set if you buy over 50.00 right now.

I use the Control Color from Shiseido. It has green and yellow and it is amazing! It covers my rosacea flawlessly. I still use foundation over it though, so that I do not look greenish yellow.

Hi, I have red blotches all over my skin from previous acne spots due to rosacea and acne. I have tried many green concealer sticks and the one I like most is called Perfect Change. I am almost out of it and can not find it in stores or online. Does anyone know where I can purchase it?
    Thank in advance.
    Karen

  7. Shannon says:

Karen, who is the maker of Perfect Change?

Also, have you ever gone to a Prescriptives U-blend event? They customize concealer, foundation and powder for your skin tone. I went to one and found out my tones are red/blue and not yellow/green (the way most people’s are). It’s worth looking into!

you can also use Purpose or Aveeno moisturizer that help reduce redness. i always get rid near my nostrils so i always put it around my nose and mouth area. unfortunately, the green color looks a little ashy on my asian coloring, but if it works great for you, awesome!

This is a great post. I’d heard vaguely of green or yellow concealers, but never actually seen a good explanation of how they worked. I have old acne scars and dark circles under my eyes. I’ll have to check this out very, very soon!

My mom developed roscacea later in life and I have sensative, problem skin…we both use the new Clinique anti-redness skin care line. Works nicely, can’t go wrong with Clinique.

I have uneven complexion and use Urban Decay’s Universal Concealer. It does wonders. At first, I never thought it’d work due to it’s bright yellow tinge in the package. But I assure you that it’ll match almost anyone’s skin tone.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out what “undertone” is best for rosacea? I’ve been using philosophys airbrushed makeup and love it but they have a two new colors out that I might want to try. I can only find the new color choices on the sephora website. The new colors have either a neutral or warm undertone…Does anyone have suggestions on which undertone is best for rosacia? My skin is very fair in color as I stay out of the sun as much as possible living in Texas! I used to use Bare Minerals and actually loved it but I’m not someone that loves to “mess” with makeup and found philosophys airbrushed line and love it! It’s perfect for those of us that prefer not to spend a lot of time applying makeup and it too has spf as does Bare-M.
    Thanks, Leisa

    Leisa-
if you have rosacea, and you use a red/pink/warm based undertone its going to make you look red again so don’t do that, use the neutral one…. as far as bare minerals goes, it is a mess. have you ever heard of pur minerals? its the same concept except its not messy because its press together (held together with shea butter) they also have a colour-correcting primer in green that you apply and let dry and then apply the 4-in-1 foundation over it. the 4-in-1 (concealer, foundation, finishing powder (which is like mineral viel) and spf 15) was actually featured in the jan issue of marie claire as a 2008 Top 10 Best Beauty Buy, go to your nearest ULTA or order online. unless you are the LIGHTEST person in the world do not get the porcelain, it is the lightest color in the world. with the rosacea either get golden medium or light. if the light is too light get just warm it up with a bronzer

I developed rocacea in high school. I have used metrogel, taken oracea, and even had laser treatment(painful). My face as cleared up considerably except for my nose. I look like rudolph. I don’t go without makeup. I’ve been using aveeno anti-redness lotion and it helps some. I’ve used sheer elegance powder foundation and a number of other foundations. They all seem to work for all of my face except my nose. Any suggestions?
