Are You Eco-Fabulous?

Origins Organics has a contest going where they want people to tell them how “green” they are. You can enter by submitting a photo, video or blog. Um…really? I’m sorry I just can’t get down with that. So the point of the contest is to nominate yourself for being totally awesome? I’m so wickedly Eco-conscious you should all look upon me and feel shamed for your lack of commitment to bettering our world. It’s a little, well narcissistic don’t you think? It reminds me of that episode of South Park where they all buy hybrid cars and move to San Francisco. I mean what would I take a picture of that would embody how committed I am? Me wiping my butt using only one square? That’s commitment. If you are sufficiently impressive and simultaneously humble you win a four day stay at an “Eco-friendly” hotel in Wyoming, a bunch of Origins Organics and various other “green” products. Wow, that’s…wow.

Okay I’m being really snarky I know but come on. Does anyone else find this to be really silly? If you are committed to preserving our planet, which we all should be, you shouldn’t need to shout to the world about it. Not about how cool you are anyway. Shout about ways we can all be Eco-fabulous. And what an obnoxious way to say it anyway. Eco-fabulous, bling and bootylicious should be wiped from the lexicon. I’m changing the name of the contest to, Are You a Human? If So, Be a Participant Instead of a Bystander. Yes the other title flows better. By the way the Origins Organics line is fantastic. I just love Origins in general and have been a fan since high school. So this is not a commentary on the products, just on this contest. It sort of reeks with an air of self-righteousness and I think that was probably the opposite of the goal of this contest. Bottom line: I won’t be entering this contest but I will be riveted to see who does and their submissions. Instead why don’t we all try one of Origin’s products, share it with a friend and then recycle the packaging. Turn off some lights, use a dish towel instead of a paper towel and walk instead of drive somewhere. All of the above is just my personal opinion and if you disagree I won’t be offended. I will however think you are dumb and just can’t recognize my fabulousity.

“Me wiping my butt using only one square”…. that is the funniest thing I’ve read! I totally agree with you…it is so annoying to see marketing and advertising that trivializes the importance of being user conscious by turning it into a new fad. All we need now is for the fashion world to develop an “eco-chic” look and lifestyle and the music industry to churn out “organic music” and we’ll be set.

Oh no, I can just see it now. Tranquil music played by native people whilst drinking yerba mate in their yurt. It will be pressed onto bamboo cd’s. ” I’m sorry I can’t listen to non-organic music, it’ not good for the enviroment” Oh and it will cost $60 and only be avialiable at Starbucks.

Despite the lame contest (and I’d like to wipe my butt with “edo-fabulous”) I got a batch of the organics for the holidays. I am in love with the spray lotion and the bar soap. The body lotion is a little strong so I reserve it for times when I want to smell like a hippie, but it is really nice stuff.

ECO..I meant to say eco… not EDO. There goes my whole smartass remark. Hmph.

I still got it. It was smart-ass enough for me LOL. That’s the thing, I really do love Origins. They just obviously have a crap marketing team*snort*

  6. Hi Noel,
I am sorry you feel this way about this contest. I entered it to share what my students and I do (in a very highly polluted area) in an inner city school in NYC to help the environment. It was not to brag.
Guess what I won the grand prize.
