Going green is an idea that is moving beyond the “hippie” label and into the mainstream, as well as the world of high fashion. AnneMarie Iverson, from Harper’s Bazaar, shares that green companies like Aveda and Pure & Natural showed an increased presence and involvement in events during New York Fashion Week.
Aveda has taken its green crusade to New York Fashion Week, sponsoring a group of designers who share its values. In addition to providing headline hair teams and products for the Thakoon, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rodarte, and Rag & Bone fall shows, Aveda ensured that all invites and programs were printed on recycled materials, that locally grown organic food was served, and that heavy-carbon-footprint bottled water was banned from backstage.

Pure & Natural, a drugstore brand, paired with well-respected fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney for a co-sponsored event called Earth Pledge FutureFashion. The show featured sustainable fashion and design.
Dick Page, the lead makeup artist at the event and the brand ambassador for Kiehls, believes that a key element in the “green thing,” is to find products that are multi-use and multifunctional.
It’s exciting to see the idea of going green spread. With increased attention, the movement will grow and become more accessible to everybody.
