Emma Watson, the actress who plays Hermione in the Harry Potter movie series, is set to work with People Tree on a clothing line. People Tree is a fair trade company and royalties from collection sales will benefit the People Tree Foundation. The foundation works toward bringing fair trade practices to farmers and creating more opportunities for sustainable fashion world-wide.
Emma Watson will work as a creative advisor for the line that will launch during February 2010 and is targeted at young people in their late teens and early twenties.
The South of France is the inspiration behind the line of what sounds like sportswear, “…knitwear, cotton T-shirts, jersey dresses, poplin skirts, and shorts.”
The actress asserts that she is not working on the line to satisfy her own ego, but because the line is intended for a larger benefit:
I’m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe I’d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ‘Look at me! I’ve got my own line!’ [It’s] gotten so ridiculous.”
Emma Watson has been making a name for herself as a young woman with a good sense of style with a real appreciation for fashion. I look forward to seeing what comes of the collaboration of People Tree and Watson.

Emma is such an amazing person and a talented actress. I think it’s really cool how she’s combined her love of fashion with a charitable cause. It’s not just for personal gain. She’s doing this to HELP people. I really admire that and I will definitely be purchasing something from People Tree. Love this Girl!!
I’m a fan, too. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
