Pretty by Nature

Green Beauty Book Giveaway

Going green might be the “in” thing to do these days, but in reality there’s real science to back up the “hype.”  With so many choices out there, we are no longer required to subject ourselves to harmful chemicals when it comes to taking care of our skin, hair, teeth, hygiene, or the makeup we use.

The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances, by Julie Gabriel, a registered nutritional expert, explains how the products we use on our body are really no different from the food we eat. If we are uncomfortable with the idea of ingesting chemicals, why are we okay with putting them on our skin or on the skin of our family members?

The Green Beauty Guide advises which ingredients to avoid, how to shop for green beauty products without going broke, how to make natural beauty products of your own, as well as what is meant by words like “natural,” “organic,” “biodynamic,” and “hypoallergenic.”

Stop wasting your money on products that don’t work or can ultimately harm you.  Use Julie Gabriel’s Green Beauty Guide to focus your search on only the products you truly need and will use.

If you’d like the chance to read this book for yourself, then you are in luck because I’ve got 5 copies available for giveaway.

To enter, please leave a comment sharing what you do in terms of your own green beauty regime.  I’ll chose random commenters and announce the winners in a few days.

Good Luck!

*The Green Beauty book giveaway is open to residents of the United States only.

i am new to going green. i have no idea where to even buy green friendly make up.

  9. Mollie G. says:

I try to avoid the various “parabens”, which I usually associate with food preservatives and waxes, and lean toward products containing the various natural oils that are increasingly available. And nothing works quite as well as breaking a leaf off one of my Aloe Vera plants and spreading that gel around — moisturizing, nurturing, healing, AND they grow back — doesn’t get any more “Green” than that!

  22. Shannon says:

I haven’t had a chance to try many green products but I want to so I’d love to read the book. It would be great to be able to use only green products.

  23. Kristina says:

I obsess over make-up and follow new trenda whenever they come out- I even buy new make-up even tou it’s over flowing in my vanity. I had no idea make-up could be no different from like food we eat; scary since we wear make up daily. I am very excited to hear about this book because it is important to be educated on all aspects of planet GREEN!!!!

  24. Suanne Giddings says:

I have been truly trying to become more green, but my green cosmetic knowledge is severely lacking. I have a few of the mineral powders/blushes, but the rest of my beauty products have not been replaced. Does it count that I dab a bit of EVOO on wrinkled areas when I am using it in the kitchen (followed by a hand washing before going on with the meal preparation)? Thank you so very much for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!

  25. Veronica says:

I work as a kineiologist, massage therapist and beauty therapist in a health clinic and have created my own facial range to do facials out of certified organic wholefoods …. I am always looking for new combinations of ingredients and also which ingredients work best for the skin and which dont. I am always researching which is why your book would be the best addition to my collection. Its great that so many people are joining the fight to make our world greener! :)

  26. My most “green” thing about makeup is that I tend not to wear it much anymore. I’d love to be able to look nicer without trashing my skin or the planet.

  27. Lily Kwan says:

I like to make my own homemade beauty treatments instead of store bought products.

  28. Marcy Strahan says:

I ground up oatmeal & mix with a little perfume or oil & take an old pair of pantyhos & cut 6 inch strips. I tie one end & fill with the misture & tie the other end.
this makes my own homemade oatmeal bath treatment.
Wet & rub your skin with it & then let it disolve/soak in a hot tub.
Great for itchy skin & leaves you feeling smooth.

Use the Variety Oatmeal from the dollar store for a Strawberry, Banna or Peach bath treament.

  29. I use natural products

  30. Jen says:

I mix jojoba oil & aloe vera in a little bottle and apply that as moisturizer to my face – better than anything I’ve ever bought and I’ve tried many. Sometimes I add a few drops of lavendar or tea tree essential oils to the bottle. I also like the Avalon Organics shampoo – Whole Foods carries the Lavender in a larger bottle to cut down on packaging.

  31. Destiny O. says:

I am an activist by heart but I haven’t really found a good cause to “fight” about which wil lbenefit everyone. I now have a change of lifestyle. I recycle, use natural products and always conscious at what’s being thrown away. I am fighting for a cleaner environment for me and my family and the future generation. I hope everyone will do their part.

  32. holly says:

a good, pure olive oil in place of cuticle oil during an at home main/pedi!!
    =]

  33. The Q says:

I write a sustainable fashion blog and I’m always interested in learning more about living a greener lifestyle. I would not only read and review this book on my blog; I’d use it as a reference for writing other posts on organic, cruelty-free, and sustainable beauty.

  34. Here are my favorites: Avocado for hair, Olive Oil on my face and body after a bath salt and olive oil as a scrub for smoth lips.

  35. Rebecca Cox says:

I have an autoimmune disease, so we are trying to remove as many chemicals as possible from our home and life. This book would help me a great deal!

  36. Pamela says:

I’m just getting into the ‘green’ movement and don’t have any type of green regime right now. I’m looking for ideas and I’ve already got several from the comments on this blog.

  37. Jessica says:

I am a “former” makeup artist ..That sounds funny. I gave up my MACtress job to be a SAHM. But I learned a lot about going green especially with my makeup regimen. First I make sure I read the ingredients to my products. Second I basically shop MAC for their recycle policy BACK2MAC. Basically you turn in your finished products and get a free lipstick out of the whole deal. MAC’s packaging is also beneficial bc all containers or cardboard can be recycled.

    LOVE EM!!!

  38. Aimee W. says:

My family has gotten MUCH better at recycling. Also. we use all-natural products whenever possible: green cleaning products, personal care products, skincare, cosmetics, bath/body products, etc. In addition, we attempt to reuse as many things as possible.
    Thanks again!

  39. Terrie says:

My regimen consists of hot olive oil treatments for my face and hair. I am overjoyed that this book has been published. There are several books on green products for house and garden but green body, bath and beauty products are not included.

  40. Jennifer says:

I recycle all the packaging that comes with my makeup products and always use up every last bit of the product. My daughter also plays with some of the empty bottles of makeup products as well. She has a great time with them in the bath! :)

  41. Daniel M says:

new to greening and don’t know what I’m doing yet

  42. Trista Marie says:

I have used all organic lotions, cleansers, shampoos, conditioners, toners, makeup etc for over 5 years now… I am 100% organic in everything and would LOVE to read this book!!! Thanks

  43. Martha C says:

This book looks interesting. I am a grandmother of a five-year-old who has peanut and soy allergies. We have been reading labels and researching allergies since his peanut allergy discovery on Halloween when he was about two years old. His condition also has prompted our family to look into greener ways of living and continuing education for our family as well as his teachers and school friends. I want to be reassured that our rapid techologic advances are tempered with an eye towards global health and our own longevity. Thanks for any information you can contribute towards that end.

  44. Kelly says:

I am a professional make up artist who loves and appreciates high quality natural products. I am in the process of going completely green with my products of choice and would love to have this book as a resource! Thanks!

  45. We are very ‘green’ and I am always looking for ways to be MORE green! The book sounds wonderful! thanks!
