I’m In With The In Crowd

At Saffron Rouge you can join Kirsten’s Inner Circle and you will get samples each month. It’s $35.00 for the year which I thought was reasonable for the opportunity to get a little surprise every month that just shows up at your door. Hubs did not agree, “No one needs new beauty items every month” blah, blah I stopped listening. So my latest little happy something that came was Pure Cream Lip/Cheek stain from sukicolor. They stand behind their products that are mineral based containing no synthetics or toxic ingredients. There’s also a skincare line that looks so amazing. I can’t wait to try the lip butter.

One thing that really caught my eye in the statement from Suki herself is that Skin Deep: Cosmetic Database doesn’t distinguish between organic, natural and synthetic ingredients. She says that according to their system, a pure essential oil is the same thing as a synthetic perfume. I really can’t attest to the validity of that statement but I do know that Skin Deep has some serious flaws. Often times they only have a partial ingredient list and give it a rating based only on the partial list. It’s just so important to read the labels for yourself. Anyway off on a tangent again.

I got the lip/cheek stain in Dahlia and it was indeed pure and creamy. I was expecting a stain to be a drying on my lips but it actually felt like a really nice lip balm. Even an hour later my lips were still moist. The color itself was really natural looking. I want to look like I didn’t try and I think this is one of those products. You just look better but people can’t figure out why. Not that artificial make-upy look. I had a friend in college that would shave her eyebrows off only to coat her face in foundation and pencil the eyebrows back in. I once saw her early in the morning and didn’t even recognize her. Let’s say it together NATURAL LOOKING MAKEUP. I think for day to day the cream stain and some mascara and I’m good to go. Done and done.

Regarding the comment on Skin Deep not differentiating between natural, organic and synthetic ingredients – that’s because it honestly doesn’t matter. EVERYTHING in the world has a chemical formula and is metabolized by the body in some way. Pure essential oils can be just as irritating and harmful as fragrance oils (and actually, usually are, in addition to being much more flammable and the citrus based ones are photo-sensitizing).

Natural and organic compounds can be very dangerous – snake venom and abestos are examples. Also, people can be just as allergic to natural compounds as synthetics. For example, lots of people are allergic to pollen, peanut butter, certain vegetable oils, etc. Some synthetics are bad for you, while others can be completely harmless. It really depends on what the material is, not whether it was made in a lab or not.
