I’m Not a Plastic Bag.

Have you seen this?

I’m Not a Plastic Bag, by Anya Hindmarch went on sale in the US yesterday. It is an eco-friendly cotton, cream colored bag that is bringing a lot of attention to environmental fashion.

This bag sold out in minutes all over Europe, and here as well. It is retailing for $15 at Fred Segal Flair and Ron Herman, and for $18 over in Canada at Holt Renfrew. But if you can wait until July 18th, it may make an appearance at a Whole Foods near you. They are slated to start carrying this re-useable shopping tote in the East Coast Whole Foods Market stores only.

It is certainly more fashionable then the ugly bright green canvas ones that my grocery store offers for $10. But is it fashionable enough to wait in line for? Hmmm…

I’m desperately looking for this Anya Hindmarch “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” bag i’m in love with. I live in Barbados, Caribbean and it is not available here. Can you please tell me where I can buy it? Please don’t tell me eBay. My arm is lonely without this bag.

I waited 3 hours in line on June 20th, at Holt Renfrew in Montreal and managed to get a couple. I later resold one for 100$

To those who complain the bag isn’t ethical-

It doesn’t really matter where it’s made, or what it’s made out of… The point is, people who like this bag will want to use it and that in itself can reduce the consumption of plastic bags.
The goal wasn’t to diminish child labor or cheap labor in China.

If people like this bag and decide to use it as an alternative to plastic shopping bags, then the message and goal is effective.

People who want this bag know its intended purpose and ultimately it’s a personal choice to stop using plastic or not. The bag itself doesn’t make a difference, it’s the attitude people adopt.

The message is boldly imprinted on the bag so it’s promoting awareness and a 2nd look at things.
Like if you bring it to a supermarket where everyone is packing their stuff in plastic, they might think twice next time.

I too, only thought of this bag as a cool alternative to using plastic shopping bags at the grocery store.

I actually have not heard of any of the unethical controversy surrounding this bag yet. That is too bad.

Like I said I look at the bag as what it is meant to stand for, and should hope that others do the same.

i would like to know “how to pre-order the anya hindmarch, Iam not a plastic bag….?? thanks so much

I highly doubt most people are planning to use this bag to put their groceries in…who puts eggs and lettuce in a (potentially) $100 bag and risks dirtying it?
*that* is what completely defeats the purpose of the bag- people who buy it for the sake of fashion.

the ” I am not a plastic bag” bag isn’t a plastic bag, sure, but it isn’t a grocery bag either. >

I just used my for groceries. It felt good to walk out without the plastic bag!
