Juicy Lips

When I was home for Christmas I picked up Juice Beauty’s SPF 15 Tinted Lip Moisturizers at my favorite Sephora on Third Street Promenade. It’s a three piece set which ensures that there will be one in there that’s the perfect shade for you. I obviously consider myself a lip balm aficionado. I wonder if there’s certification for that? Like an advanced degree in lip balm with a minor in hand lotion. Anyway, being that I hold such high standards I have to say that this product did not measure up in the emollient department. It didn’t glide over my lips as much as I would have liked. That said, it was moisturizing; just not enough for me. I would probably layer it over something thicker like Lip Balm #1. I really like the shades that they come in because they are very subtle. So really I would consider this product an alternative to lip stick if you are not into lipstick so much, which I am not. My favorite of the three is the plum one. I like the way it highlights the natural pigment. I feel like it looks more natural. It works as a nice daytime look. Oh and don’t let me sway you with the moisture thing. I just can’t stand the idea of my lips rubbing against each other, I need a barrier. When I was in high school I used to wear chapstick on a necklace around my neck. I have issues.

I received this as a gift over Christmas as well. I had high hopes since a lot of organic lip stuff has no SPF. This stuff is like, hard. Like trying to rub a sticky rock over your lips. I was bummed since the colors are pretty and I, too, am pretty much anti-lipstick in general.
HAHA, sticky rock over your lips. I can see that. So it didn’t meet your standards either? I really wanted to like it more but yeah I need something more emollient. But in general I really like Juice BEauty products.
So, chap stick expert, what do you recommend then?
*Snort* I will have to go with my tried and true Dr. Hauscka Lip Care Stick. Basic no color moisture. A plain old multi-purpose balm would be good as well if we aren’t talking about color, just utility. Balm Balm , Smith’s Rosebud Salve and Badger Balm are some of my favorites. The Rosebud balm actually does sort of pick up pigment so I think it does add a little bit of color. The balms are good on your cuticles and dry patches as well. Hope that helps.
OK. So I haven’t worn a lot of Juice Beauty (I’m a guy) but I might be able to help.
I have had patients who also like Kiehl’s. The way I look at it, for the winter an SPF of 4 would be fine, unless you are skiing. In that case, go for the SPF 15.
It would be hard to find an organic lip balm with sunscreen. In the summer I would definitely go for the sun protection. I have seen women with sun damaged lips. Its not pretty (lipstick or not).
I can’t say no to Kiehl’s, their Lip Balm #1 is just wonderful. I second the SPF idea. Doesn’t Kiehl’s have an all-sport line or a skiiers line? I thought they did once.
Noel,
Is this product organic like other products in the Juicy line?
I’d also like to know how they taste?
This is a great beauty find!

The website says that it’s organic but I didn’t see that on the actual package. I will have to check again. As for the taste, they actually tasted pretty good. A little sweet but not I dunno like flowery like a lot of organic and botanical products. It’s not overpowering.
What a rip off. In truth, I got ripped off because I got comfortable. I should have known that sooner or later there would be a shyster out there just waiting to take advantage of the fact that we get too used to agreeing to the rules of the website without carefully digesting every single word. I got the first tube, the tryout tube for free. The small print says it would cost $89.99 a month unless I was smart enough to tell them I didn’t like it before the 15 days was up. Oh and by the way, they don’t accept returns either. Plus when I called to try to get my money back, there was just no one there who could talk to me. The person I was talking to reported to the owner of the company, no one had more authority than he and he would not approve a return…that was not their policy and I had, after all, agreed to the terms. All this and the stuff doesn’t even work. So I caution you, if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. $89.99 for a small tube of lipgloss seems a bit high to me. I’m working with my credit union to try to get my money back but I’m not feeling very positive about that. I live on a fixed income. $89 right before Christmas is big loss to me. Just be careful out there.
I’m confused. You paid $89.99 for a tube of lip gloss? What company are you talking about? I didn’t write this original post, but I took a look at it and it’s a review for the Juicy Lipgloss that she bought at Sephora. I’m not aware of any monthly lip gloss programs they have going on.
