Mineral Makeup Month – Bare Escentuals.

Probably the most widely known mineral makeup brand is Bare Escentuals. And by looking over their sales figures, they are the mineral makeup brand that sells the most too.

bareescentuals Bare Escentuals was founded by Leslie Blodgett in 1976 and has created a mineral makeup line, 100% pure bareMinerals with no additives and zero irritants whatsoever. I am sure you have seen her in her infamous infomercials, or QVC. You can tell she is not you typical CEO. I believe that Leslie is involved with everything from color selection to new products developments to packaging.

From full foundations, to mascara, lip gloss, and just about everything in between, Bare Escentuals has it all.

I love the get started concept, where you can choose your skin tone, and get a kit that contains everything you need to get started with bareMinerals:
-Two shades of bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation to ensure the perfect match.
-bareVitamins Skin Rev-er Upper: can be applied daily before applying bareMinerals to rev up your skin
-Mineral Veil: provides a translucent finishing touch to your makeup, infusing it with softness and adding a flawless finish.
-Warmth All Over Face Color: add an instant sun-kissed glow to skin where the sun would naturally touch.
-Flawless Application Brush
-Full Coverage Kabuki Brush
-Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush

Okay, fess up bareMinerals lovers. Tell us why you love this line so much. And I wonder, am I the only one who feels a bit itchy (that gets worse if I sweat) when wearing these powders?

Woudn’t put anything else on my face.

One thing though: Leslie Blodgett joined Bare Escentuals in the 1990’s. She was a teenager in 1976. Although she made the brand what it is today, the minerals were around years before her arrival.

I’ve heard lots of great things about this brand….friends that don’t like makeup have become fans!

  3. Teri says:

Thank you for the correction, Daphne. My press information did not contain that, and I honestly did not know that about the company.

I first tried Bare Minerals about six months ago. I was pretty skeptical, and started by buying only one container of mineral foundation.

Now I love the stuff and keep buying more!

It’s a miracle for me because I have very oily, very fair skin. I desperately need SPF but can’t stand putting anything oily, gunky or chemical-y on my skin. I’ve never been able to wear foundation — it looked cakey on me and just melted off.

Bare Minerals foundation is my dream come true — nice, non-oily coverage with SPF. (I don’t own stock — yet!) I am having fun trying the other products in the line, too. I really like the Mineral Veil, the Glee powder (I use it on my eyes) and all the brushes. I desperately want to try the brow kit as soon as I can get to a boutique or Sephora. (I live in the boonies.)

I haven’t tried any other mineral makeup, simply because it’s so expensive. I’ve heard good things about Jane Iredale, though.

This is the best make-up EVER! It does everything they say on TV. I started out with the starter kit and now use more of the line. The Well-Rested under eye powder (yes, powder!) is a miracle. Now I’m starting to buy the color coordinated kits. I love that I have a Sephora nearby where I can see all the colors!

  6. Winnie says:

I like the idea and bought a starter kit from Sephora. But I also feel a bit itchy when I put on their mineral make-up. Any idea why?

  7. Lanie says:

I loved Bare Minerals, but after about 6 months of use I linked it back to a sudden outbreak in cystic acne, which I had never experienced before. Bare Minerals uses Bismuth Oxychloride, which is known to cause problems for people with acne or sensitive skin. There are other mineral make-up brands that do not use Bismuth Oxychloride that I am now using with great results. Unfortunately the 6 months of cystic acne has caused scarring that I am now dealing with.

I had a similar effect with Bare Minerals, it was one of the worst things I’ve tried on my face. I have had really oily sensitive skin all my life, and noticed breakouts almost immediately after using BM. Bimuth Oxychloride is found in many powders, it’s a cheap filler that gives your face a shimmery/shiny look.

I have been using a great line from a small company in Baltimore, MD called Monave Minerals (www.monave.com). I haven’t had any massive breakouts since I’ve started using their makeup. They have a great concealer foundation that works miracles. This stuff is great sans the Bismuth Oxychloride, talc, and parabens.

I tried bare minerals and i have to say i hate it. no matter how she goes on about her makeup there is something in her foundation that severly aggervated my skin. i have sensative skin and rosacea and i break out so when i so a comercial about her makeup i tried it hoping it would be what i needede but it was’nt. made my skin feel worse. i started peeling and my face dried out, and my face got realy red. ladies if you have sensative skin think hard about your options. there could be something better and cheaper on the market.
