Spread The Love Around

I know that some people get icked out by the idea of buying used goods or sharing things. I used to be one of those people so I’m certainly not going to look down my nose at anyone. Everyone has a line that they will or will not cross and that’s okay. Well I guess depending on what it is. Like I’m not going to say, “whatever floats your boat” if your thing is kicking babies or something. So on TreeHugger they had an article about NYU making it easier for students to recycle and not just dump their stuff on move out day. This Saturday you can bring unwanted and gently used items, including non-perishable food items to locations on campus. I truly think this is a great idea and I was trying to think of more ways to up-cycle but I’m wondering if it would gross people out or not.
When I was in high school my friends and I would have clothes parties where you would bring stuff you didn’t want anymore and everyone could basically shop out of each other’s closets and take home new clothes. New to you clothes, that is. What if I did a grown up version of that with like unused beauty products. Clearly nothing that would be unsanitary. I’m not trading mascara or deoderant but how about a barely used bottle of lotion or body wash. I’m just feeling people out so I would interested in all thoughts on this. There is part of me that thinks um, “nasty” but then also I think why waste perfectly good stuff and just end up throwing it out. Would you do this with your friends? Let me know what you think!

I think it’s a smart idea. I wanted to give my samples to a homeless shelter, but of course, they wouldn’t take opened product. Now I just pass it onto my friends. They love it.
This is what I do: if I have a lotion I don’t care for, I take it to work and put it on the supply table. We all wash our hands so often, we need hand lotion or cream. They can use their own if they don’t like it, or that one if they run out. That way, it doesn’t go to waste. It’s either a pump or squeeze bottle/tube, so it’s not unsanitary.
Those are great ideas. Soos, as always thinking outside of the box!
Hmm, the idea is kind of growing on me. Especially those items that you splurge on only to realize that you either bought the wrong product and can’t return it, or you just didn’t like it. I’ve got a Dr.Haushka moisturiser that I used for a week that’s up for grabs…it made my skin really dry, any oily complex peeps interested?
I love the idea of recycling rather than wasting products and firmly believe that Americans have gotten way too squeamish and concerned about germs. Honestly, has there ever been a case of a person getting sick from using someone else’s lotion? Of course not!
