So now that all of the Holidays are upon us, I hope that you are done shopping or DIYing. Every year I promise to start earlier and I never do. Instead everyone is just getting crappier stuff and less of it. Now if you’re one of those people who thinks that a gift card is a cop out…sorry. I’m still recommending it as a great gift. I know people who are highly offended by that kind of thing. I don’t get it because instead of stressing about what to get, they can decide for themselves. No one is entitled to a gift ever, but if you’re going to give one it should at least be useful. Saffron Rouge has an awesome selection of natural and green cosmetics so you can have a field day there. You can send it via email so nothing has to be shipped and no paper or plastic has to be used. Perfect gift, no?

It would be a great present for someone who is interested in trying out some natural cosmetics but hasn’t quite taken the plunge yet. Many other places also offer online gift certificates so if you’re in a rush or live out of state from your family, like me, then it’s a great option. It looses some of the excitement of opening the gift but hey, I haven’t been excited to open my presents since I was 12. So there you go. The hubs and I decided that this year we would be giving mostly handmade gifts. I have to say it made is feel so much better and the stress level from maneuvering crowded stores has been eliminated. All that’s left are little stocking stuffers and small gifts for co-workers and such. Those I’ve decided to just buy and be done with it. My creativity switch has been turned off. So I thought I would share my top five “green” $20.00 and under stocking stuffer ideas. Say that five times fast.

1. Saffron Rouge has tons of samples and gifts packages all ready to go. The Inara sample canister is at the top of my list for my best friend. Also it’s already basically wrapped. Less work for me=win.

2. Reusable sandwich bags from Etsy are AMAZING. We’ve been cloth lunch bagging it for years but I never really thought about the amount of plastic baggies we were going through. These are awesome because they wipe clean and stay closed. Great for cosmetics and kiddie snacks too. Oh and they’re cute.

3.  Donate to a Charity in someone’s name. Yes it has the potential of coming across as obnoxious or smug but I think it all depends on the charity, delivery and recipient. Honestly many people today have so much more than they need. How about not giving them more crap but instead helping someone in need. When given genuinely, it usually comes across in the right way. It’s especially relevent when a donation is made to a cause close to the recipient’s heart.

4. Bath Bombs from LUSH should come with redeemable coupons for uninterrupted alone time in the bathtub with a glass of wine. Maybe I’m projecting. That is my idea of a perfect gift.

5. Gift certificates to your local resale, thrift or consignment store are a must for the young and old. It’s fun, economical and one of the best choices you can make for the environment. Forget bamboo sheets and $100.00 organic t-shirts. Go to your local Salvation Army. Oh and did you know you can also donate airline miles?

Sephora has some great gift sets and deals this time of year. One of the ones I have my eye on is LAVANILA’s two-piece gift set in Vanilla Coconut. It comes with the Eau de Parfum and the Body Butter. Vanilla and Coconut are two of my favorite fragrances so it’s seems like a win-win. However since it would be a gift for someone else I will have to resist the temptation to keep it myself. This particular set is only available online at Sephora so perhaps it would be a good gift for someone you will not be seeing on the Holidays. You could have it shipped to them directly and save the hassle and added costs of re-shipping it. You can check out reviews and specific ingredient information here. I am particularly fond of their new format that allows customers (or Beauty Insiders) to leave reviews. If I am going to buy something online I want to have as much info as possible before I click. Martha Stewart Living is one of my favorite home, crafty magazines. I’ve never been able to replicate exactly a craft project she has done but I always enjoy the process. In a lot of cases the finished product works so much better for me. I guess bascially she has great ideas if not practical ones. Check out this month’s issue because she has a slew of ideas for homemade gifts. The one that caught my eye was DIY lip balm and body scrubs. There are step by step directions and you can download templetes from the website for labels and decoration. For us this is for sure going to be a homemade gift Christmas. What are some of your ideas for DIY gifts this year?

Just in time for the Holidays, The Bubble Roome has an awesome new 3-in-1 spray. You can use it as a linen spray, room spary or for your body. It has sweet orange essential oil, vanilla, cloves and more very fall/winter scents. This would be a great gift for a party host or a nice stocking stuffer. I most surely would spray it all over my linen closet. Or spray this around when you have guests coming and they will be impressed and wonder what you’ve been cooking.

1.  A lovely glass jar filled with bath salts and essential oils. Almost anything will work, it just depends on what mama likes. 
2. DIY homemade beauty kit. You can compile all the ingredients for your favorite body scrub or whatever and let her put it together herself. You can include some extra options so she can make more than one potion out of the same base ingredients.
3.  The best gift…well duh make your mom dinner. Turn the tables, put a lot of effort into it. I’m sure she will love it. No this one doesn’t have anything to do with beauty products but it says, “hey I care about you and the environment.”

Any other ideas folks because I’m kinda spent on this one. Help me out!

I’m not a lavender fan, or at least I wasn’t. Suddenly however, lavender is having the best week ever in my house. I inadvertently purchased laundry detergent and hand wash that had lavender in it and now I am hooked. It smells so good. I don’t know what I was smelling before, but this is heavenly. I then decided that I would create a fragrant care package for my mom for Mother’s Day. Since I can’t be with her I can at least send her something relaxing and soothing. You can steal my idea if you want…posers.

Pangea Organics has a very appealing Lavender and Cardamom shower gel. I love cardamom on its own but this just looks awesome. They packaging is pretty too.

L’Occitane Lavender Harvest Hand Cream is a necessary addition to any gift basket. I personally love L’Occitane’s hand creams because just a little goes a long way and they are so rich.

Weleda’s Lavender Relaxing Bath Milk had me at “bath milk”. Come on, does that not sound amazing? If she doesn’t use it I’m going to steal it and indulge myself.

A nice little addition I think I will add is a bouquet of United Planet’s lavender roses from Organic Bouquet. I really hope my mother likes my creative basket of love. Any other suggestions?

Instead of beating my dear one over the head with this I have decided to be sneaky about it. I am far from an all-natural hippy woman but to certain people the mere mention of vermicomposting means I don’t shave. So I have gathered together a few things for a gift basket for the envirophobe in my life. I’m not about to start waving a sign on the street shouting,”The end is near, repent” or anything. This would just be for someone close to you that you want to share some of the things you care about with.

Godiva Solid Perfume from Lush is just too tempting to resist. You can even get them a little tin to keep it in and they can just keep refilling it. Only the Grinch could resist a yummy smelling shampoo. I plan to stash a Modmix Organic Cocktail Mix in there as well. Seriously what is up with the booze? You know after a drink or two maybe they’ll get distracted so I can sneak into their garbage and separate the recyclables. I am getting the French Martini.

Finally I will include Origins Organics Body Pampering Massage Oil because who can turn down the opportunity to be pampered? Not I. Stuff it all in one of these cute Built NY bags that can be reused for shopping, lunches or whatever. Hmm, I may put together one of these for myself. Selfish cow that I am.
