There are a bevy of magazines related to health issues, and one just launched in January, that is geared towards the Organic health-minded. It is called Organic Spa.

Organic Spa Magazine is not just a spa or travel magazine, it is a quarterly lifestyle magazine about how to fulfill your life through an organic spa lifestyle through the combination of health, wellness, and living organically.

The premier issue will show you how to live green, slow down, breathe better, eat well, travel consciously, and take time out for yourself. You can view the first digital issue online now.

In just flipping through the first few pages, I see advertising from Aveda, Jane Iredale, and Eminence, endorsed by Alicia Silverstone. I believe just from seeing these how I, and hopefully you, would be interested in their magazine, as we are interested in like-minded products.

Organic Spa Magazine is available in both a print or digital version, which is available for immediate download. You can order which ever version you please right here.

Are you interested in Organic Spa magazine, and would you subscribe?

Have you heard of the Environmental Working Group? They are a non-profit organization that research products that may threaten our health and the environment.

They recently found that a certain cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane, is used by many companies in many cosmetic products. You will notice this chemical by other names, such as dioxane, diethylene dioxide, 1,4-diethylene dioxide, diethylene ether, glycol ethylene ether, dioxane-1,4, tetrahydro-p-dioxin, tetrahydro-1,4-dioxin.

The description of 1,4-dioxane from Wikipedia: 1,4-Dioxane is primarily used in solvent applications for the manufacturing sector; however, it is also found in fumigants and automotive coolant. Additionally, the chemical is also used as a foaming agent and appears as an accidental byproduct of the ethoxylation[1] process in cosmetics manufacturing.

Simply speaking, this is scary stuff and cause for concern.

From the EWG study in which they read the ingredient listings of 15,000 cosmetics, skin care and other personal care products, they have published the following alarming statistics:
*22% of cosmetics and skin care products, including baby soaps, are contaminated with 1,4-dioxane.
*80 percent of all cosmetic products may be contaminated with one or more carcinogenic impurities.

Overall, they have found that this chemical is used in almost all brands of
hair relaxers and over half of the baby soaps. They broke down the contamination levels as follows:
* 97% – hair relaxers
* 82% – hair dyes and bleaching
* 66% – hair removers
* 57% – baby soap
* 45% – sunless tanning products
* 43% – body firming lotion
* 36% – hormonal creams
* 36% – facial moisturizers
* 35% – anti-aging products
* 34% – body lotion
* 33% – around-eye creams

So, what do we need to do? First thing is to read your ingredient labels and get to know the names of the chemicals we do not want on our skin. Besides the ones listed above, look for the ingredients sodium laureth sulfate and others that include the clauses “PEG,” “xynol,” “ceteareth,” and “oleth.” These all have some form of 1,4-dioxane in them.

Even if you thought that natural was the way to go, some of these names will sneakily surprise you by showing up on the label. The only true way to avoid these chemicals are to use 100% Organic products – which will be certified as so.

Well, guess what? The girls over at Juice Beauty saw my post, and they were most wonderful to send me over one of the Organics to Go kits.

First off, All of Juice Beauty’s products are formulated with powerful antioxidants, freshly squeezed organic juice concentrates, vitamins, and essential nutrients. All of the ingredients are certified organic. How great is that? And this kit is a great way to try out their wonderful line-up of products.

In the Organics To Go Kit:
Cleansing Milk – Made with Red Raspberry Juice
Green Apple Peel
AntiOxidant Serum – Made with Organic White Grape Juice
Hydrating Mist – Made with White Grape Juice
Oil-Free Moisturizer – Made with Apple Juice

The kit also includes the softest, organic bamboo wash cloth.

Each product smells different from each other, but they all smell delicious! I really like all of them, but my favorites are a toss-up between the Cleansing Milk, which dissolved each and every bit of makeup and dirt from my face, even my mascara, and the Green Apple Peel, which smooths on and exfoliates as it rests on my face and neck for about 10 minutes. It literally made my skin feel like I had just had an hour-long facial. Divine!

This kit is a must-have for you if you want to try Juice Beauty – in which I urge you to do so, and it also makes a great staple in your travel bag, if you are one who frequently travels.

Thanks, gals! I can’t wait to try more of your [Juice Beauty] products.
