This is effective in that it keeps my hair off of my neck, but it’s also a bit boring. I like to use ponytail holders with faux flowers attached or pinned on sometimes. I like to pick a faux flower that looks faux on purpose, made of cloth, perhaps a patterned piece of material. I am not trying to pull of a Real Flower look, just adding something fun to an otherwise boring ponytail.

I found these cute silky fabric flowers with the faux seed pearls at Artfire. Artfire is like Etsy – a sort of online mall full of beautiful handmade items. The fabric used for the flower clips was upcycled, so these are eco-friendly, too. They are attached to new hairpins, the seller mentions they are the Goody brand.

How cool is this Ouija board necklace?!  Made from a recycled bottle cap, it measures a bit larger than 1 inch. The Ouija necklace is strung on a 24 inch ball chain. I remember getting an Ouija board for Christmas one year and it was always such a fun, but creepy experience playing with it. Either one of my girls would love this charm pendant.

We spend a lot of time trying to cool off in the water. I’m a fan of the creek, my kids prefer the pool.

I like to wear a sort of mismatched swim suit . A suit with pieces that  go together, but are not matchy-matchy. Something like this suit that is currently on sale at Faeries Dance.com.

This bikini top has a little shell charm and the bottoms have circle-ties. I like the photo print on the bottom. It reminds me of an OP suit that I had back in the 80s. This suit is made out of84% Polyster that has been created from a combination of recycled plastic bottles and Spandex.

Take a look at this buckle, called Number 64. They buckle will fit any 1 inch to 1/2 inch thick or smaller snap belt. The buckle itself measures about 2×3 inches. It features an antiqued nickel base and the “64″ image is sealed so that you will be able to enjoy the belt for years to come.

Also of interest, the Yellow Cog buckle. It is the same dimensions as the Number 64, but features a yellow cog-like graphic.

There are quite a few styles availables. There’s a one-piece that is really more like a two-piece with a tummy cover. There’s a tankini with lots of coverage for sporty beach girls. There are a few tops – the triangle-string type, a halter, a bandeau, and the type with a banded bottom. The bottoms are basic, string, banded, and a boy short. Lots of options. Here are few ways that Macy’s is working toward becoming a greener company:

*They’ve changed to a packing material that is 100% biodegradable. It’s made of corn and potato  starch and it dissolves in water. Or you can add it to compost. You can even throw it away, because no matter where you put it, this stuff is going to dissolve.

*Macy’s is changing to a shopping bag that is made of 30% recycled materials. You can reuse the bag, so it’s 100% recyclable.

*Macy’s is looking to reduce their total energy use by 10-15% by 2010. In the past 5 years, they have already reduced by 9%.

*They are reducing paper consumption by 20% and are increasing the percentage of recycled paper they use. For more information, you can check the Macy’s website.
