Whole Foods Market (referred to in our home as whole paycheck) has some great skin cleanser recipes on their website. Most of it is stuff you probably have sitting around and would not have to make a special trip to go buy. I can’t resist homemade remedies. They are just too easy and you can do so much with just a few ingredients. Check it out and enjoy!

Today on PlanetGreen there’s a great recipe for a firming face mask using egg whites and cornstarch. There’s also tips on what you can do with the leftovers. You can also use the yolk as an acne treatment. Just whip the yolk for a few minutes and then apply to skin. Leave on for 20 minutes and then rinse off and follow with a moisturizer.
How about another face mask you say. Well alright. Take a tablespoon of honey, a tablespoon of plain yogurt and one egg yolk. Really it works better as a cleanser than a mask but you can use …read more

In my family the Holidays begin the first of November and extend well into February. Thanksgiving, Christmas and a seemingly endless line of birthdays mean that we are so not done with gift giving. Which just makes me want to cry, but anyway. So I came up with a great idea for a gift and I just might keep one for myself.
Reusable glass containers filled with lovely homemade beauty treatments are great. When it’s empty, the recipient can fill it back with more ingredients or use it for something else. I think it’s a great solution for all involved. I don’t …read more

I came across this recipe for a homemade coffee scrub and I just had to share. I used to never drink coffee but now I can’t make it through the day without at least one cup. This is a good way to recycle the grounds. It is a little messy but well worth the effort I think.
3 T Coffee grounds (organic-caffeinated)
1 T Salt (optional)
To Make: Brew a fresh pot of coffee. Enjoy a cup, if you like. Put grounds (and salt) in a small bowl. Use grounds within 20 minutes of brewing before oxidation occurs.
To Use: Scrub mixture over entire …read more

Why is it that the people that are the least informed and most ignorant on a subject are the most vocal? It’s always the person with the worst fashion sense ever who will criticize your wardrobe choices. I think the problem is that the people with common sense don’t want to speak up. I am going to change that now and start being more vocal about what I know to be true. I may as well start my New Year’s resolution early.
Okay, are you listening? You sure? Come closer. STOP SABOTAGING YOUR HEALTH. Just stop it, that’s enough. We all …read more

If you are still on the hunt for last minute gifts, check out Etsy. For yourself that is, because they are not likely to arrive in time for Christmas…slacker. They only sell handmade goods. It’s the perfect place for someone such as myself who doesn’t want to contribute to the consumerism trend, but well I just can’t NOT buy stuff. It’s a problem. So to rationalize my addiction, I will support local and handmade goods whenever possible. Here’s a few of my favorite handmade bath and body products on Etsy. The benefit of course being that they are naturally made …read more

Yesterday, I was a fresh-faced girl of 29. Today, I am a confident woman of 30. You hear all these horror stories about turning 30 and the end of your youth, yada, yada. I really just feel relieved. It’s like all the insecurity and the uncertainty of my 20’s is finally over. I feel like I know a little bit now…just a little. I’m just peaking and I can’t wait to see what life brings me next. I think that I look better at 30 than I did at 18. One of the main reasons is that I take better …read more

I’m just sticking my head in for a minute to give you guys an awesome homemade foot scrub. My feet are embarrassingly dry and scaly around this time of the year. So I started experimenting and came up with this fantastic scrub to slough off some dead skin. Throw some raw almonds in the food processor until they are ground well but still a little chunky. Mix that with some Sweet Almond Oil until it reaches the desired consistency(think clumpy oatmeal). Massage it into your feet and wash off in the shower. Then pour yourself a glass of wine and relax. It will …read more

I don’t know about you, but I have some left over icky dry skin trying to slough itself away. And it needs some major help.
While I love scrubs of all kinds, my favorite scrubs have to be sugar scrubs. And when I went into my beauty closet, there was not a single sugar scrub to be found. Ugh. What to do, what to do? Make my own! So, I pulled out my handy dandy homemade beauty recipe files and forgot how many I have! Whoa – I will be trying a different one every few days until I get my …read more
