Etsy shopping…. The Peeko Apparel shop at Etsy is stocked with unique handmade clothing items made from reclaimed, recycled, can reconditioned materials. I really like the tunics, some as long as short dresses, made from men’s dress shirts. She reuses parts of the shirts – collars, sleeves, etc – in new ways to make a peaked sleeve or a stand-up collar. Really interesting designs.
The tops are customized – you pick the color and material combination for your shirt and it’s sized to your specifications. Each tunic takes 3 weeks to make, so if you are planning to make it a …read more

Etsy weekend shopping…I love copper accents. I love the warmth of the color and how the copper changes with age. These earrings are upcycled with vintage beads – notice the etching on the beads. These are lovely earrings with a boho feel – my favorite style, as I’ve mentioned before. They are shipped in a black box, perfect for gift giving.
Copper Garden Earrings – $24
Vintage copper beads that are etched in a delicate floral design are strung on a rosy copper ballpin, suspended on handmade hammered copper rings, and finished with copper leverback earwires. A coppery garden for your ears…

Etsy weekend shopping…. I found an interesting interview with jewelry designing sisters, Courtney Spivak and Christina Spivak, whose shop White Owl carries lovely jewelry made from vintage items like reclaimed crochet pieces, lace, or metals.
The sisters are creative by influence and choice – their interview says that they are “from a family of artists…” Courtney Spivak teaches communications at the college level, makes short independent films, and is also a musician. Christina Spivak is a stylist and commercial photographer. She’s worked in both independent and Hollywood film. The sisters began by selling their pieces in craft fairs and now their work …read more
A Prettier Ponytail: Eco-friendly Hairclips

Summer is at it’s height and the weather is hot. Very hot. I’ve got long hair and I pull it up in a twist or ponytail every day.
This is effective in that it keeps my hair off of my neck, but it’s also a bit boring. I like to use ponytail holders with faux flowers attached or pinned on sometimes. I like to pick a faux flower that looks faux on purpose, made of cloth, perhaps a patterned piece of material. I am not trying to pull of a Real Flower look, just adding something fun to an otherwise boring …read more

Plaid shirts. They are my soft spot, since I embraced the grunge trend as a kid like it was my own creation.
Now, I tend to wear my plaid under tube tops or as a loose J. Crew but cooler look.
This great top is made of recycled plaid cowboy shirts. I don’t know what could be more awesome.
Measures 18″ across shoulders, 40″ at the bust, and 30″ long.
$58
