This Has Nothing To Do With Makeup

From time to time I feel compelled to write about something other than beauty products. But this is a beauty blog you say. I hear you imaginary heckler but feel me out for a minute. I think green, eco-friendly or whatever buzz word you want to use pertains to more than a few areas of your life. There are lots of ways to reduce your impact that are cost effective and simple that I think more people should consider. You may end up consuming more goods up front but in the long run you will be saving gads of resources.

Reusable utensils and napkins. That’s it. *Pause for reflection* We rarely go out to “nice” places anymore with the bug. Well except for Mother’s Day when we went to have Sushi and got death stares as we walked in but nevermind. When we do eat out these places have disposable napkins and chopsticks. The solution is we started carrying our own. I just tuck a fork, spoon and chopsticks for each of us from home into a little bag and throw it into my purse. The bag is actually this rocking little fabric roll-up meant to carry knitting or crocheting needles but works great for this purpose. I wash them then put them right back in my purse so I never forget them.

You can get some cloth napkins anywhere depending on your style and your needs and then just tuck a few in your bag for outings. If you’re brave and are prepared for looks you can just use some old washcloths or scraps of fabric. This is only slightly more acceptable with a baby in tow but we have gotten plenty of nasty looks. So there’s my two cents for the day. It works for me and I think it’s helpful but please feel free to tell me, tactfully, that I’m a dummy and I suck. Hmm…I guess there’s no tactful way to say that so just tell me I’m pretty and I smell nice.
