Three Vintage Finds Under $50

Three Vintage Finds Under $50

Etsy weekend shopping… It’s been awhile since we went vintage dress shopping.
Lets see what we can find….
I like this vintage Alfred Werber dress in a unique kimono style. It’s made in a bold color-block type stripe and it’s shown with a white cloth belt, but I think I’d cinch it with something wide and in a contrasting color. This dress is in a size medium-large and it’s listed as being in “great” shape. ’

Navy and White Vintage Kimono Dress

This dress would be a good choice for the holidays. It’s got that sexy secretary look and comes in a size small. They …read more

Fashion Trends At the 2009 Emmys

Fashion Trends At the 2009 Emmys

I noticed some definite trends in the 2009 Emmy gowns. One was the use of red – it was all over the place. There were also a lot of asymetrical necklines and one-shoulder looks. I’m torn over the one shoulder looks. Sometimes it’s beautiful, but other times it looks like two completely dresses. It doesn’t always flow and it can be very distracting. Do you want to wear a dress or do you want your dress to wear you.
Here are a couple of examples of the red dresses…..
Ana Tov – This was my favorite of the red gowns. I love the neckline …read more

Eco-Chic: 5 Dresses Under $100

I love dresses. My friends comment that I look dressed up, but my secret is that they are really cool and comfortable in the hot Summer weather. The fact that I look a little more put together is usually a happy accident. My daughters have caught the dress bug – Sarah likes a spaghetti strap and Bay is happier with a strapless look.
Here’s a dress that Bay would love. It’s redesign from an 80’s vintage dress and I found it at Taxi CDC Recycled Wears . It’s knee-length and has an empire waist that they’ve accented in the photo with …read more

Beautiful, Bold, and Bohemian

Beautiful, Bold, and Bohemian

I try to share a good amount of vintage clothing and accessories. I do this for a couple of reasons. One, I am a fan of the design, particularly anything that has a sort of flower child look to it. Second, it’s eco-friendly to buy vintage.  The pieces I’ve shared are virtually unchanged. Maybe a “slip” is re-incarnated as a “slip dress,” but the pieces themselves are not altered.
Today, I’ve got something very different. These vintage pieces are either dyed or have added embroidered pieces attached. The dress below is a good example. It’s a slip that has been treated with a …read more

Your Green Wedding – Dress

I haven’t written about Your Green Wedding in awhile, but there’s still lots of Summer left to wed in ………
Threadhead Creations, an Etsy shop, carries the lovely Grace gown. The dress features darts for shaping and a full, flaring skirt. The dress fabric has an imprint of a floral design. The front has a scoop neckline and the back is open, with criss-cross straps that tie. (My favorite part, I love a dress that makes the wearer look like a beautiful present).

It’s made from blend of hemp and silk (hemp 85% and silk 15%). The dress is lined with 100% …read more
