Rashida Jones Joins Celeb Eco-Designers

I’ll never ever ever understand what it is about being a celebrity that makes one an innately better designer than, say, me! But as long as they’re designing, I like it when they go green!

Which is why when I read over at Ecorazzi that Rashida Jones (daughter of Quincy, former star of The Office was designing a line of eco-friendly clothing called Laloo, I was pleased.

Rashida has paired up with Angela Wilcox to create a line of “swingy tanks, dresses, and layerable tees in the softest organic cotton.” They promise the line will be flattering and will flatter all kinds of figures.

The line will soon be available in stores and online soon! I’ll definitely keep you updated on this!

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoe Collection

I forgot about Natalie Portman’s new side gig as a shoe designer, but thankfully Ecorazzi reminded me!

Natalie’s line of vegan shoes are now available at Te Casan!

To be honest, the collection isn’t anything special. They are normal, stylish, animal-free shoes. However, it looks like it’s going to be popular, because several styles are already sold out on pre-order!

To see all the styles or to place your own order, head over to Te Casan now.

And don’t forget to check out photos of the launch at the NYC boutique at Just Jared!

Hayden Panettiere is a fearless eco-warrier. She’s currently the public face for the Save the Whales Again! campaign!

It’s great to see that Hayden takes the environmental route with less sexy activities, like getting groceries! Here she is yesterday, carrying her goodies in some colorful reusable bags after a trip to Whole Foods.

Thanks to ecorazzi for the tip!

Fashion Against AIDS

H&M launched their “Fashion against AIDS” campaign yesterday. The project pairs designers with their AIDS Awareness projects. These collections will be in H&M stores world wide on January 31st.

The collections will include certified organic cotton t-shirts, hoodies and minidresses and will be designed by celebs like Timbaland, Rihanna, Scissor Sisters, Katharine Hamnett, Rufus Wainwright, Good Charlotte, Ziggy Marley, Chicks on Speed, Jade Jagger, Henrik Vibskov, The Cardigans and My Chemical Romance.

Below is a video promoting the campaign!

I think this is a great idea and I love the fact that the fabrics used to promote AIDS awareness are eco-friendly. All the celebs that particpated did so free of charge!

Green Celeb Style: Al Gore

Okay, this has nothing to do with fashion, but I’m posting it anyway!

Last Thursday, NBC had a Green Week. All their shows had a green theme. The best part is that Al Gore made a cameo on 30 Rock, which resulted in the best episode of 30 Rock this season!

Check it out below:

America’s Next Top Model Goes Green…

October 25, 2007 by admin

Okay. I need to vent. While the Project Runway Canada eco-episode made me squeal with glee, last night’s episode of America’s Next Top Model made me want to throw things against the wall.

The theme was ‘recyclable materials.’ I was thinking couture garbage garments in a low-impact setting. Instead, the sets were very literal and ambiguous in regards to the eco-impact . The clothing was not recycled material, and if it was, someone should have said something. Instead, it was normal clothes that matched the mounds of garbage set up by Tyra’s creative team to put behind the models.

Some of the items weren’t even recyclable — oil? Really? Are you sure? I mean, you can recycle oil but it’s a hell of a lot easier to just use less of it.

What ANTM and Tyra is trying to do is a good thing. The green theme is raising awareness, the show itself is trying to use less resources, and, hopefully, the viewers watching it are being inspired to do something about their ecological footprint.

But the entire photo shoot looked like a high school art project; it wasted materials and didn’t get the point across fashionably.

That being said, Jenah (cardboard, above) looks amazing.

Umbrella Chic Canadian Style

Project Runway Canada aired their second episode last night on Slice. I must say, I’ve been very impressed so far. Iman is a fantastic host (she’s bitchy in a way that Heidi never is), the production value is very high for original Canadian Cable programming, Brian Bailey is hands-on in a way that Tim Gunn never seems to be (but this could be due to editing more than anything) and the talent abounds.

Last night was the obligatory “green” episode. The designers had to make a cocktail dress out of discarded umbrellas. I thought it was an interesting take on the recycling theme.

Overall, it was really well done. While the judges focused mostly on the poorly done dresses (and I’m still reeling about Lincoln’s departure), check out these beauties below:

Green Celeb Style: Halle Berry

halle berry pregnantThe real celeb in question here is not Halle Berry herself, but her yet-to-be-born baby!

After publicly announcing that she was three months pregnant (congrats Halle!), she was spotted out buying organic cotton baby gear.

She picked up a pant and t-shirt set from Baby Brown’s. Baby Brown’s has tons of adorable baby clothes made out of environmentally-friendly organic cotton.

I strongly suggest you follow Halle’s lead and check out what they have here.

Bindi Irwin, Eco-Fashion Designer

bindi irwinWith every Jessica (as in Sarah and Simpson), Paris, Olsen twin, and Amanda Bynes (this one truly baffles me!) getting in on the celebrity-turned-fashion-designer bandwagon, why shouldn’t Bindi Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter’s cute as a button daughter?

Bindi launched an eco-friendly kids’ clothing line in Las Vegas at Magic, the world’s largest trade show, last week.

Bindi herself hit the catwalk and strutted her stuff for the potential department store buyers.
The most amazing part? 100% of the profits from The Bindi Wear International Fashion Line will go towards supporting conservation programs run by the Australia Zoo.

Bindi worked with the Australian kiddie fashion design team Three Monsters to produce the 130 piece line.

“They are clothes with a message,’ Bindi said in Las Vegas, where the line was launched. “We’re getting just further and further away from animals. If we keep making them into boots, bags and belts what are we going to be left with?”

The line, which consists of t-shirts, jumpers, swimwear, sleepwear, hats, bags and shoes, comes with embellishments like recycled cardboard tags, recycled rubber soles for shoes.

The line will be available in Australia in February and should show up in American department stores shortly after.
