Tuesdays Tips – Make your Own Lip Balm.

Over the weekend, my daughter and I experimented with a lip balm recipe. It came out great.
The ingredients were all found at a large craft store, and the tins I packaged them in were too.
The Recipe:
1 oz beeswax beads
1 oz shea butter
1 oz sweet almond oil
In the microwave, melt the beeswax beads and shea butter until the mixture looks almost clear, and has a smooth, creamy consistency. Next, slowly add in the sweet almond oil, and stir, stir, stir. Before the mixture has cooled, pour into tins, pots, or tubes. Use caution when pouring as the mixture is HOT.
I found this to be similar to the Burt’s Bess lip balm, and we have been using it ever since we made it. Next time, I may add a peppermint essential oil to the mix.

I love making my own stuff like this – I have a recipe for a chocolate lip gloss that you add just a chocolate chip or two to, and it tastes yummy, and has just a hint of color. Yum.
Ooh – I will have to leave out a bit of the oil and add a few chips next time! My daughter will love it.
Thanks for the suggestion
Don’t forget to prepare your lips with a slick of lip balm. Use a moisturizing lip balm with Squalene, which is derived from the olive and has many moisturizing and soothing properties. Last, but not least- don’t use a lip product that has menthol or camphor in it. These are used to dry up cold sores – a definite no-no for chapped/cracked lips-
Great advice, Anna. Thanks!
