5 Haircut Terms To Tell Your Barber

You can’t just go to a Barber one day and say, “I want the Brad Pitt hair” Or “George Clooney Hair” or “Tom Cruise”, etc. If there is one person in your life whom you need to communicate well with, besides your wife and Mother, it’s your Barber. We are talking about your hair after all. Esquire’s The Handbook of Style book shares 5 terms that you should know to tell your barber next time you want to get a haircut.

THINNED OUT – this is good for thick and unmanageable hair. The Barber uses a thinning shears. It looks just likie regular scissors but with gaps in between the “teeth”. This enables the hair to be cut short and retain long cut on some parts.

LAYERED – this is good for thin hair. The longer hair rests on top of shorter hair. It gives your hair movement and depth.

CHOPPY – this is for fine and thinning hair. For a thicker appearance, the hair is cut in different lengths.

RAZORED – if you want more texture and volume in your hair, the Barber will use a razor instead of scissors for trimming the ends of the hair which will then give it the tapered edge.

TEXTURED – this looks more like the CHOPPY style except the hair is cut shorter.
