Giving fashion advice to fashionable guys

Alfa asks:

I’ve been reading this blog for a few days now. I’ve this fashion-crazed (meaning loves trendy stuff) guy of a boyf, I don’t like seeing him wearing too tribal chokers and bracelets. How do I inform him w/o sounding too you know..?

Now this is a dilemma. You are trying to give advice to a guy who is really into fashion, instead of fashion challenged. The problem? He’s gone a bit overboard.

So, a couple of suggestions for giving advice to your fashionista friend:

  • Go accessory shopping with him and get him to try on a single item or two, but take off the others, then casually say how good that looks. Much more simple and trendy because it’s a subtle statement (why this works: people expect advice when trying things on, so you can push it)
  • Buy him something new that is more subtle and perhaps doesn’t match his current stuff, so he has to wear it alone (simple leather cuffs are in)
  • Dress up to go somewhere and suggest to him that his accessories don’t match… and here you can drop that they are maybe too tribal
  • Get drunk and blurt it out ;)

Hope that helps!
