Men’s Health 4 Principles Of Buying A Vintage Suit

vintagesuit-30s.jpgMen’s Health #1 on their 21 Principle Of Iconic Style from their September issue deals with acknowledging your ancestry. That means finding a vintage suit that’s perfect for you. The former Men’s Fashion Director at New York Times, Robert Bryan shared with the magazine readers the 4 Principles of Buying a Vintage Suit. I’m going to run through them for you:

Look For Classics
Well, this is like a given. Look for herringbone and time tested fabrics like tweeds, gray flannel or chalk stripes. However, wide lapels or tricky detailing won’t stand the best of time therefore opt for moderate styling.

Find Your Decade
For much quality, go for suits from the 50’s or 60’s but the ultimate find would be a vintage suit from the ’30s[inset picture].

Choose Easy Fixes
Linings are easy to replace but patching a hole, covering a stain and alteration of sleeves are another story. So watch out for those details when searching for a vintage suit.

Clean Them Gently
The “miracle of wool” is actually through steaming and pressing suits to loosen wrinkles. Hanging them for a few days is also preferred for the proper shape to come back in all it’s glory.
