Here are some of his rules that I find interesting, agree with, and what have you….

2. Working out is modern couture. No outfit is going to make you look or feel as good as having a fit body. Buy less clothing and go to the gym instead.

No matter how “mean” that sounds, it’s quite the truth.

3. I’ve lived in Paris for six years, and I’m sorry to say that the Ugly American syndrome still exists. Sometimes you just want to say “Stop destroying the landscape with your outfit.” Still, from a design standpoint, I’m tempted to redo the fanny pack. I look at it as a challenge—it’s something to react against.

Yes, I react against fanny packs as well. Don’t redo it. Just throw ‘em away, heh.

6.There’s something a little too chatterboxy about color. Right now I want black, for its sharpness and punctuation.

That’s true but a Pop of Color couldn’t hurt once in a while. It depends on your mood and the occasion, I guess.

10. It’s funny—whenever someone talks about rules, I just want to break them. I recoil from the whole idea of rules.

Khakis

COLORS — Tones from stone to tan. Light or faded khakis are perfect for Sundays while darker colors are good for office work.

LENGTH — Anything the hits the ankle or breaks slightly at the hem would be most preferable.

POCKETS — Classic pairs have 4 pockets. 2 in the front and 2 in the back. Don’t be afraid to get some with slanted pockets for a leaner look.

CUT — Straight leg cuts with a slight low rise would be your best bet.

MATERIAL — If it says “wrinkle-free” it’s not khakis. They should be 100% cotton, washed twills and poplins.

CUFFS — Practice the balance of uneven and neat cuffs. 1 inch wide then fold over 2 or 3 times then scrunch at the end.

Designers On The Verge

Gone are the days when American designers are known for polo shirts, khakis, navy blazers, and solid staples styles. DETAILS magazine considers these 4 new designers from New York as the vanguard of American Fashion.

Patrick Ervell, 30, “My philosophy has never been about doing a major seasonal shift—it’s about gradually developing the collection.”

Adam Kimmel, 29, “It’s good to have fun as long as the clothes are kept in a masculine context.”

Robert Geller, 31, “I make clothes that have strength, which is very important for men.”

Alejandro Ingelmo, 34, “When I can’t think, can’t design, I walk around the city. I see the people walking and I see all this movement and the traffic and I’m very influenced by it.”

2. Talking about what brand you’re wearing is gay in the bad way. Just keep quiet and play dumb if someone asks. Talking about what a great deal you got on the aforementioned item is worse. If you must, tell your mom, because she has sale empathy and will take your victory as her own. It’s sick.

This would only work if you’re a woman and having a shopping and fashion conversation with your girlfriends. It’s a totally different story with Men.

4. Cigarettes are a vile, dirty habit. Joints, on the other hand, are perfectly acceptable.

Wow, really? My question is more on the joints statement by the way.

8. It’s just not cool to fart on a plane, even if everyone’s ears are plugged from the altitude and they can’t hear where it came from. Heed my warning: Airplane-fart karma is a bitch, and you will find yourself at the receiving end on a sleepless transcontinental red-eye soon enough.

Tom Ford shared his insights regarding suits, patterns, jewelry, Botox, earwax, and more but one thing stood out for me.

There’s one indulgence every man should try in his lifetime: If you’re straight, sleep with a man at least once, and if you’re gay, don’t go through life without sleeping with a woman. Either way, you might be surprised at how natural it will feel if you can get past the mind-f**K of stereotypes. In the end, it’s just another person that you are relating to in a physical way.

Um, yes, Tom Ford said that. Well, according to DETAILS anyway and I don’t see any reason why the magazine would print something like that otherwise.

In these day and age, Women are saying that 50 is the new 30. Awesome. Just think of Madonna. She just turned 50 but she looks and acts like she’s 20. Of course not all Women are confident about their age or turning a year older. Present company included. It’s depressing for me, heh. I just love the gifts, hehe. How about Men? Do they feel the same fear or annoyance that they’re turning a year older?

How about if you’re only in your 30’s yet you feel and act like you’re oh I don’t know 80? DETAILS magazine wants to know, Do you have Grandpa Syndrome?

The September issue of DETAILS magazine delved onto what is supposedly a new phenomenon. Men have turned into shopaholics. Apparently, instead of a maybe a shot of whiskey, you Men would much rather go shopping for oh I don’t know, a Gucci, or an Armani.

Although DETAILS consider this news, I don’t. Actually, Men have always been shopaholics. But first, let’s define what a shopaholic is. To me, it’s anyone who likes to shop. Man or Woman. Whatever it is they like to shop for. I find it interesting though that when someone says shopaholic, it’s quintessential for them to think it’s for shoes or clothes and it must involve high-end shopping. I define being shopaholic in a broader way. Anyone who likes to shop for something, i.e clothes, shoes, gadgets, tools, cars, furnishings, sales, etc.

So if you you really think about it, When Men get excited about Home Depot or Sears Tool Dept, or the prospect of a huge screen TV, or a new car, or a new set of golf stuff (whatever you wanna call it), new camera (everyone is a photographer these days), the new iPhone,  a new grill or a ride-on mower, I think it’s safe to say, they’re being shopaholics. It not just about clothes or shoes.

Only snotty people will consider shopping for designer items as the only definition of being a shopaholic. There’s actually a new name for that. If you prefer GUCCI, Armani, LV, a yacht, jaguar and the lots, you’re a LUXAHOLIC! But shopping for anything you like, high-end or bargains, whatever they maybe is called being a shopaholic in my book. So there goes the theory that Men suddenly became the new breed of shoppers. Uhmm, actually, they’ve always been.

2. Style is a question of charm, not nationality. It’s not true that French men have more allure or style than American men. It’s just that they dress with more personality. They don’t follow dress codes, and sometimes they mix things in a way they shouldn’t. Like how Serge Gainsbourg dressed, with his reptile shoes with jeans and blazer and white shirt—that’s charm.

4. In relationships, you must show proof of love and do something passionate. I once had a boyfriend fly from New York to Paris just to have dinner with me. It was very smart. (*With airfare costs these days, you might want find other alternatives )

6. You should have one watch for the weekend, one for the week, one for suits, one for sport. I love watches. Watches are for men what perfume is for women. They are very personal, and you can wear them according to your mood. (*Ehhhh, I’d suggest sunglasses instead, heh. )

8. Men make a mistake when they follow fashion instead of their own personality or their own body. When they dress in a very slim shape even if they don’t have the right body, it’s all wrong. It’s awful. With my husband, I tell him, ‘Stay yourself and I’ll take care of you.’ He’s the most spoiled man in Paris. (*Amen, Amen, Amen. I’m happy to say my husband knows his stuff with my help of course . )
