Ryan Brown was my pick from the beginning. He was more creative in incorporating other items in his outfits with the neckties. Items like blazers, cardigans, vests, hats, and even umbrellas. Not to mention the humorous accessories and poses which made me laughed out loud every time I visited the site.

To Jon’s credit, he kicked it up a notch near the end. I loved his Halloween costume. I thought that was very clever and apropos for the contest.

The contest was all friendly fun and games of course. I think Jon and Ryan had a great time but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t wear ties for a while. Or maybe I’m wrong. I’m curious what they’re going to think of next.

The colors are bold, the graffiti styling is eye-catching but it’s not as explosive. It’s easier to take. You know what I mean? The color schemes are blending nicely. I’m not surprised at all since Don Date works with the best urban artists out there. Currently, he’s collaborating with Darren Brass and Cope 2. You might have seen Brass in that very popular TLC show. Miami Ink. Cope 2 on the other hand is huge among the new generation of street artists in New York City. His mark has been prominent in various TV, apparel and video games. He even made it into the cover of Newsweek Magazine.

Back to the shirts, I keep talking about the colors and blending of the designs coz as bold as they are, they’re perfect to wear underneath blazers or sportcoats. Just in time for Fall Fashion. Sean John Mondrian Sweater

The stripes are nicely laid out on one side of the shoulders, then the sleeves, and the diagonal placement on half of the shirt. The v-neck has stripes trim as well. The stripes spruced up the gray color of the sweater, no? Oooops, not gray, it’s grape leaf actually. However you call it, the hues of blue, brown and white made a nice accent. Besides argyle print for Fall sweaters, this Sean John Mondrian Sweater is definitely recommended for casual days paired with jeans and canvas sneakers.

So I want to talk about your sneaker collaboration with Gucci. What was your initial reaction when they called?

Well, there’s a really pervasive spirit of entrepreneurship in music right now. As soon as you’re a success you’re supposed to use that as a platform to get your clothing line going or your car detail shop or whatever it is. But I don’t think I’m good enough at music yet to be distracting myself by branching out. That idea of, “Now that I’ve made it as a musician I’m going to put out my own line of shoes…” I think it corrupts a bit. I don’t know that Quincy Jones or George Martin would’ve had the success they had if, half the time—or even a tenth of the time—they were concentrating their attention on polo shirts.

But then again, Nike does all these editions, but you don’t really expect Gucci to come knocking. So when they got in touch I thought it would be worth at least going to Milan to meet [creative director] Frida Giannini. Then, while I was there, I saw the men’s show and fell in love with the line. So ultimately I thought it made sense. And I liked how genuinely into music Frida was. She has a collection of like 8,000 records at home and we talked about music being a component of what we’re doing.
