Fashion Déjà Vu: Have we seen you before?

When you are checking out the latest fashion trends, don’t you sometimes think to yourself… wait a minute, haven’t we seen you before? Between copycat designers and retro remixes, it often feels like fashion déjà vu.
Copycat Kings
Many low end retailers and designers are accused of selling cheaper versions of luxury designer fashions. Sometimes it’s just a similar design, other times it borders on design piracy. A couple years back, thousands of Marks & Spencers bags were pulled from the shelves amid accusations of copying Jimmy Choo. In 2007, Chloe received a payout from Topshop over a dress design, then last year Gina shoes received a settlement from Moda in Pelle over copycat shoes. Here is an example that might not be an exact copy but is it too close?
Are you hot for these Stella McCartney fishnet sandals? Before you plop down your credit card and charge the $995, take a look at the Bebe mesh sandals below. Sure, they aren’t exactly the same and Bebe has a little funk to the heel, but the Bebe shoes are just $139.
Retro Remixes
This season, you might not just be seen double from copycats but also because of all the retro fashions that are back in style. From hippie-chic handbags to neon women’s sandals, it’s no wonder you are having fashion déjà vu.
If you are going retro this season, do it right and don’t over do it. A peasant skirt and espadrilles is a cute Bohemian hippie look. If you are going with retro 80s fashions, don’t get all decked out from head to toe. Instead add one or two pieces to accent your look. For example, you can jazz up a black dress with a neon yellow handbag or bright pink pair of pumps. If you dig the broad shouldered jackets, wear one with a pencil skirt and a pair of Mary Janes for an 80s glamour girl look.
But if you are getting into the 80s trend, please do us all a favor. Skip the big hair and wrist warmers. Please.
