Diablo, the former stripper turned screenwriter, apparently didn’t understand from Weitzman that she was expected to wear the shoes on Oscar night. Weitzman says the shoes cost more than $2.5 million to make!

On her MySpace, Diablo wrote,

“…NEWS TO ME, kids. I must have somehow missed the part where my shoes cost a MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS and my “choice” of footwear would be publicized nationwide. I honestly thought they were just sparkly shoes. Mr. Weitzman did mention that the diamonds were real when I tried them on, but I’m not Nancy Rockman, Expert Gemologist. I didn’t, you know, bust out my miniature spyglass and assess the potential worth of my kicks.

I’m actually really pissed about this, now that I think about it. They’re using me to publicize their stupid shoes and NOBODY ASKED ME. I would never consent to a lame publicity stunt at a time when I already want to hide.”

So, the question remained … would she wear the shoes??

Well the answer was clear on Sunday night on the red carpet … NO!

Cody decided to wear a pair of simple gold flats under her flowing Dior leopard print dress instead.

“It was a cheesy publicity stunt,” she told the Associated Press on Sunday.

After the shoe controversy was over, Diablo took home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Juno.”

When you are choosing evening shoes, don’t buy on a whim if the shoes are pricey. Make sure it’s a versatile pair that you will wear for several seasons.

First of all, these Manolo Blahnik Fabric D’Orsay Pumps.

I don’t have many shoes that are fabric but I like these. They combine two of my favorite shoe features – kitten heels and D’Orsay cut out sides.

Also from my closet are these Metallic Silver T-Straps from Stuart Weitzman. I love the little crystals along the strap and well, everyone should have a couple pairs of silver shoes.

But some designers have found a way to put a new twist on this old “favorite” that makes them more bearable. And some of them are even downright cute.

These Jenny thongs by Not Rated are actually darling. They come in two colors – smoke and clear plastic. The rhinestone details make them perfect to pair with a casual party dress, jeans or even shorts. Sure, they are still plastic. So your feet might sweat and they’ll probably be sore after wearing them for a few hours, but hey … you’ll look good. I also like Michael Kors version of jelly thong sandals as well.

And Stuart Weitzman somehow manages to make every shoe glamorous – even these Divinyl jelly sandals. The detailing makes them look so great, you can even wear them to a club or a party.

So don’t fret, ladies. Though the jelly trend seems to be back (for now), there are some wearable options!

Here we are in the midst of summer – a fabulous time to show off your pedicure in a variety of sandals, open-toed pumps and flip flops. My favorite summertime shoes are espadrilles.

Espadrilles are sandals that originate from the Pyrenees. They are usually made with canvas or cotton uppers and a sole made from rope (or some material that appears to be rope). They can be flat, platform or wedge heels and come in so many styles are price ranges that there’s a pair (or three) out there for everyone.

Here’s some of my favorite looks in espadrilles this season.

These adorable Fornarina espadrille wedges from come in three summer color and have a great looking ankle wrap that makes them oh, so chic. Pair them with a sundress or a terrific pair of capris.

Polka dots are all the rage this summer. Not exactly your typical espadrilles, these 4″ heels from Gabrielle Rocha have rope espadrille trim around the front and a buckle ankle band. Fabulous shoes for stepping out on the town on a hot summer night.

Far and away my favorite espadrilles of the summer, these Stuart Weitzman thong sandals are a must have. The platform wedge sole is just high enough. Wear them with just about anything this summer, including shorts, jeans, capris or a flowing skirt.
