Ugly Shoe of the Week: BCBGirls Crust

June 6, 2009 by Kori Ellis

With a name like “Crust,” I didn’t expect this shoe to be cute. This BCBGirls shoe features a suede upper and a small peep-toe. Usually those are good qualities in footwear, but not this time. This wedge turned out just plain ugly.

When shoes get stuck somewhere between a sandal and a boot or shoe, that’s when things usually go wrong. This one is just plain confusing. If it didn’t have the giant “tongue” making up the majority of the shoe, the rest of the components are pretty cute.

If you like these shoes for some reason, you can get the BCBGirls Crust now at Dillard’s in Taupe or Black suede for just under $100.

Hmm, I have to disagree. It reminds me of one of the shoes from the Elizabeth & James collaboration with Steve Madden, which I really liked.

They’re kind of cute but what would you wear with them?

You’re supposed to fold the giant “tongue” down, look at the pic on shoes.com it’s a much more flattering pic.

Update: I just got these shoes in the color cognac, which is a dark brown, from shoes.com.
They are STUNNING!! The big tongue thing, when it’s folded down like it’s supposed to be, just comes to the top of your ankle like a shoe bootie. They are comfortable too, the inside of the shoe is padded. Absolutely gorgeous shoe!!
