Ugly Shoe of the Week: Star Ling Sandal

April 4, 2009 by Kori Ellis

With linked leather straps and a big platform, these sandals are just hideous. I generally like platform sandals but they should have at least a hint of femininity to them.

I’m not a fan of any of the sandals by Star Ling, but this pair is the worst in my opinion. Talk about clunky! Priced at $89.95, I guess their only redeeming quality is they aren’t expensive.

These sky-high shoes will definitely give you some height if you need it. The Star Ling Cortez Wedge Sandal has a 4 1/2 inch wedge heel and a 1 inch platform.

So what do you think? Do you like these sandals? Leave a comment here and let us know.

I LOVE this shoe. I think with gladiator sandals being all the rage right now, this is a nice alternative that has its own style. But I tend to like shoes that stand out and aren’t the “it” shoe of the moment. I’m definitely getting a pair for Spring/Summer!

I LOVE THIS SHOE TOO! I don’t think they’re unfeminine and have been planning to get a pair myself. I prefer the brown, as the neutral color will extend the look of the leg, which I think is important in a shoe that cuts you off at the ankle (unless you’re an Amazon), but the black version is great as well.

Not for me… They are *almost* wearable but just look a little too clunky for me and I do normally like platforms.

These shoes make people’s feet look like they are wearing cement blocks with straps, not feminine at all.

I don’t think Star Ling pretends to be anything other than a way for the average person to try a trend without spending beaucoup bucks. I own a pair of their Arroyo platforms (a Mary-Jane style open-toe wedge) and because the straps are more delicate, I do prefer it to the Cortez. The extra height is great for me at 5-2! But having been through the 70s platform craze as a young teen, I wasn’t willing to splurge hundreds on a name brand so Star Ling was perfect for me.
