Mom Style: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!

It’s not that I didn’t have them or use them before, but now I’m really making an effort to jazz up my outfits with accessories. I pretty much always try to wear a bracelet or necklace, often cool wooden pieces. I think, now that I’m over 30 and a mom, it’s time for a more sophisticated look. However, that does not mean that I have to be boring or resemble an old lady. There’s a happy middle ground to accessorizing for a young mama. I’ve made a few discoveries I think you’ll love.

First, the Army Wrappinghood is really as dope as the creator claims it is. It comes in a plethora of gorgeous colours and I can just imagine pairing this with a dress or even a long-sleeved shirt this fall. Throw on some dark jeans and boots and you’ve got an original, warm look no one else in your mom group will have.

Recently, my mom bought me the cutest legwarmers with buttons adorning them right at the cuff. I’ve decided that they’ll serve me best as arm warmers rather than as they’re intended. Worn with a long-sleeve shirt (sleeves pushed up, of course) or maybe the plaid dress (plaid is all the rage, as we know) I picked up the other day, they’ll stand out and really make a statement. For handwarmers of your own, check out Etsy.

Another accessory I am loving, especially for those of you with long hair, as it’s not as hot on my short hair as it will be when I grow these locks out, is a Turban Head Wrap. The faux leather version from Babooshka Boutique pictured above is the hottest by far and will immediately complement a pair of tight jeans and a black top with a soft wrap cardigan.

For my birthday, I received a red and black scarf that I love to pair with an Old Navy graphic tee but I think it will suit any cool tee. My scarf is something like this one from bimboistic.com and I adore it. It’s got a great modern feel to it but with a classic cut. It’ll even suit my winter coat, a red empire waist number from The Gap.

Accessories are important if you’re looking for a sophisticated, put together look. If you research to find out what’s out there, you’ll be able to choose the looks that will work with your wardrobe and your personality. Best of all, most accessories are one-size-fits-all, because knowing my favourite pieces will always fit makes me happy and gives me a boost on even my worst days.

I love seeing people accessorizing with headbands and the sort, but I can’t seem to pull off the style.
