How Do I Wear This?

March 25, 2009 by Aly Walansky

Recently, I was at one of my favorite stores – as I was about to check out, a dress caught my eye and I threw it into my basket – without the slightest thought as to where and how I would wear it.

Even then, the dress was slightly out of my wardrobe comfort zone, and while pretty, I’m surprised I picked it up!

redtiereddressNow, it’s been sitting in my closet for weeks, and I want to wear it…I still think it’s cute…but I don’t know how. So, I was hoping I would turn to my awesomely fashionable friends! If you can give me an answer to my query now, I still have time to throw it in my suitcase before tomorrow!

The identical dress – a “Venus” style by Tart – exists on one of my favorite e-tailers, Note, it’s still mid-March, so pairing this dress with flip flops and calling it a day cannot yet happen…what do we think? Heels? Tights? I do not know!

PS: All options must not make me look fat.

    Hi Aly,

I think the dress would be really cute if paired with a pair of opaque black tights and red heels. A cute blazer and a cute cap or print scarf would complete this look very well.

I have a top that’s similar. It’s not quite long enough to be a dress, but almost. I wear it with my favorite j brand skinny jeans and a cropped jacket on top if it’s chilly. Throw on a pair of heals and you’re ready to go out.

For more of a cocktail look, I would just wear this with heals and some hot accessories. Subtle, flesh-colored stockings would work if you want to keep your legs a little warmer.
