Maxi Dresses for Petite Figures

Recently, I was out with a friend and we were admiring maxi dresses in the windows of our favorite Brooklyn boutiques.
My friend is leggier than me, and also “of the boobage”, and so, what will work on her may not work on me, and vice versa.
This has proven true with the maxi dress trend, which for some reason seems to make me simultaneously look like an elf and a balloon. It’s just hard to put a petite girl in a long flowing dress!
Sometimes, it works out though! Avon sent me a dress I am actually wearing right now – a braided long medallion dress in adorable aqua blue, and it is super flattering!
Casual enough that I just wore it to grocery shop, but pretty and perfect to wear to garden happy hour! Plus, how much do I love that it’s under $30? Happy recession-friendly shopping!
The maxi dress comes in many different styles, so making it work for you is dependent on working with your strengths. If you choose badly, you will just look short and round! You will notice this style is well-cut – that is why it works for me. If it had a flowy tent skirt, I’d be lost!
I wore my dress today with my fitted cropped jacket – this is also a good hint. By doing this, I am maintaining definition in my waist. It also looks great with a hot pair of chunky platform heels!

oh I like it!
Oooh AVON lady! Neighbor calling! I need to try one of these dresses! I’m petite in every way possible. I love the way maxi dresses look, but most of them look silly on me. I just look like a little girl playing dress-up. If you come across any others like this, please continue to share with us your wonderful finds! They’ve actually been VERY VERY helpful to me!
