One Day Left to Make Your New Year’s Resolutions

Am I the only one who finds it totally whacked that there is only ONE DAY left in 2007?!? Seriously, this year has flown and I can’t even figure out where it went! It’s been fun and exciting, no doubt, but I totally look forward to seeing where 2008 is headed.
So in the next day, I will be writing down my New Year’s Resolutions. Sometimes I do this; sometimes I don’t. This year I will because there are a lot of specific things I want to accomplish and I want to make sure I can track my progress.
Probably tomorrow I will share mine with you. If not tomorrow, then very soon. And I hope you’ll share yours with moi!
Until then, here are some things to think about when making your list:
- Focus on you. I know it’s hard, but a new year means a new start…for you!
- Make goals realistic. Losing a ton of weight in a three week period is neither realistic, nor healthy. Break any big goals into smaller pieces (5 lbs. per month or 4 workouts per week) rather than scaring yourself with giant, hard-to-reach quests.
- Write them down. Writing your resolutions down and keeping them in front of your face is a great reminder of how far you’ve come and where you still need to go. If one of your goals is to take better care of your skin, post a note on your bathroom mirror to remind yourself to use that extra mask or moisturizer.
- Track your progress. Keep an eye on the prize by tracking your progress on a calendar, spreadsheet or digitally. Keeping this running list in front of you will help hold you accountable for your progress and will keep you on target.
- Reward yourself. When you reach certain goals (or smaller parts of your goals, if it’s one big one and you’ve broken it down), reward yourself with a special treat. Of course, if your resolution is “Eat Healthy”, don’t reward a week of clean eating with a pig out session at Taco Bell. Instead, pamper yourself with a pedi or download that random song that nobody likes but you.
- Enjoy the fun of goal-setting. So we may not all reach our goals, but we can have fun trying. Even if we miss, we may still have inched a little closer. And that counts for something.
Have fun, dream big, and Happy New Year!!!
