Retail Therapy and My Cute New Dress

As it is Sunday night, and a pretty casual time in blogger land, I figured I’d just tell you about my day. (Which – of course – involved shopping anyway.)

I’ve had a pretty stressful few weeks – friend dramas aplenty, financial strains (hello moving during tax time!), and just this weekend, I was heart-broken to find out I was not invited to a really important occasion the whole rest of my close-knit circle was invited to. As an escape from it all, I joined my parents for a lunch of sushi and tea (at a place called “So Far So Good”…but I digress…), whereupon my mother was sent all of rail by discovering half the restaurant was closed off for a baby shower…for twins.

I knew where this was going.

Mommy pouts. “I want twins.”

Me: So, go get pregnant. (I seriously do not want this to happen, it would be a little icky at her age, but if it makes her leave me alone…)

She looks at me. “I’m too old.” And stares to STARE at me.

It creeps me out a bit, and I tell her that if she keeps staring at my belly (one I am ALREADY self-conscious about since the Slim-Fast challenge), I am going to start to feel a tad violated.

“Maybe if you were violated already I wouldn’t have to bother you!”

Now, my mom is claiming, hours later, after I nearly threw my soy sauce in her face, that she was not commenting on my sex life, but rather on her desire to see me breed. Whatev. It stressed me out all the more and I was forced to…go shopping.

freepeoplePraise the lord, we were minutes from a fabulous Loehmanns sale, and they had an adorable Free People dress that instantly took my mind off my woes.

While Loehmanns subscribes to the “off price retailer” rule of not making their amazing deals available online, I did find the same dress elsewhere, at Revolve Clothing, if you want to check it out. (Though at Loehmanns it’s less than half the price!) But it’s the Free People Solid Voile Pintuck Dress in White, and sort of a big deal for me – I NEVER buy white dresses. It’s like my rule. So if I am going to get one, it’s going to be a really special one…or make me look thin, whatev.

This is totally cute, and fully lined, so it won’t be see-through. Plus, it has that fiesta look that is so hot right now, and is all cotton, so very breathable. Great thing about white: It will match ALL my shoes. I shall just not be allowed to drink coffee when wearing it. No biggie, right? A small price to pay for salving my soul!

They actually have this dress in black in the “We the Free” store in Brooklyn and it’s on sale. Still a good size run too if anyone wants it.
