Dark Denim
For a more “dressed up” look, choose dark washed denim. Dark denim is suitable for the office and looks perfect in trouser or skinny styles. Pair dark jeans with a blazer and pumps for work or a peasant top and sandals for a casual date.

Flared Jeans
If you were never quite hip to the skinny jeans trend, you might take notice that flared jeans are making a comeback. Flares aren’t the same as wide leg jeans (which many people hate). This silhouette is more fitted, like skinny jeans, but flares out from the knee down. If you like the Bohemian or hippie-chic look, these jeans will fit right into your wardrobe. Add a fringed handbag and pair of wedges.

Boyfriend Jeans
Boyfriend jeans don’t have to be overly baggy or sloppy, as made famous by Katie Holmes. Wear these relaxed fit jeans and still look pulled together by adding a belt and rolling up the cuffs to show off your shoes. For some nice contrast, pair boyfriend jeans with a romantic ruffled top or flowery prints.

Colored Jeans
Skinny jeans will continue to be popular throughout the spring and summer. Try something different by sliding into a pair of colored jeans. Grey and khaki are top choices. Don’t think you have to be super skinny yourself to wear skinny jeans. Many denim companies are offering a more relaxed version of skinny jeans that is flattering to all figure types.

Ripped Jeans
Torn denim is back again. The destroyed denim trend was a popular fixture in the grunge look of the 90s and now it’s resurfaced. This time, it’s more sexy than dirty. Strategically placed tears are revealing a lot of skin on the runways and the city streets. You don’t have to take this trend to the extreme. You can instead wear gently worn jeans with frayed edges.

Whatever type of jeans you prefer, make sure they fit. When trying on jeans look in the mirror from all angles. Bend over, squat, kneel and move around to make sure they don’t bind, tug or reveal too much. You want to be as comfortable in your favorite pair of jeans as you are in your own skin.

Best of 2008

Ruffled Blouses
Ruffles came back in a big way – in shoes, handbags, dresses and especially blouses. It was great to see feminine, romantic fashions at the forefront. With all the menswear-inspired designs early in the year, girls could be girls again in ruffles.

Patent Leather Bags
Well really, patent leather anything – shoes, belts and especially bags. Glossy patent leather adds luxury and shine to any outfit. Hopefully patent is big in 2009 as well.

Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans look hot with everything from knee-high boots to platform sandals. These form-fitting pants aren’t for everyone but body hugging jeans are far better than their baggy counterparts.

Worst of 2008

Maxi Dresses
Blame Angelina Jolie for starting it. Blame the rest of the world for jumping on the bandwagon. These long dresses swallow your body with their flowing silhouettes. I don’t care what anyone says, these baggy, floor-length floral dresses don’t flatter any woman.

Gladiator Sandals
If you visited Shoe Blitz today (as you should everyday!) you probably know how I feel about gladiator sandals. Unfortunately this trend will be back for Spring 2009. Don’t buy them, ladies!

Boyfriend Jeans
I’m not sure why Katie Holmes (or anyone else) thought it was cool to put on a pair of oversized jeans, roll up the cuffs and head to the street. Boyfriend jeans are something you might wear on a camping trip paired with a flannel shirt – they aren’t something you should wear anywhere else.
